Happy Independance Day fellow Malaysians!

Decided to post this in commemeration of our National day, 31st August. There was not much of a fanfare where I live, in Sg Long. I think there will still be the usual National Parade, as we do every year. But no fireworks at the stroke of midnight. Maybe the economy is not as good as it may seem.

Some friends have noted that this year, the celebrations seem muted. There isn't a huge fanfare about our national day. No flags flying around, no thumping speeches to fan patriotism and etc. Those are lacking.

But hey, in my opinion, the love of our country doesn't have to be professed out loud. Some people maybe not be happy living under the conditions they are currently in. But that is no fault of the country. It is the fault of the administrators of our country. That being said,I think Malaysians are lucky to be born in this country where we are exposed to so many different cultures and religion.

Just by being Malaysian, by default, we can already learn almost all of Asia's culture. Learning to be tolerant and respectful towards each other is something that we should never forget, despite whatever that has been and will be played in the headlines.

And not to mention, the different types of food!! Glorious food!! We have Nasi Lemak, Bak Kut Teh, and Roti Canai. All these 3, if you think about it, we can have it for any of the 3 meals, and even supper! Heheheh....

Well, just so this isn't a long post, I'll put up a song fit for the national day. Uplifting song by the late Sudirman (aka Singing Lawyer), entitled 31 Ogos.

Enjoy!!

Flustrated

This is a new word I have coined up several weeks ago.
It is a combination of the word "flustered" and "frustrated"
Can also use as flustration.
What does this word mean?
It is the feeling you get when things aren't going the way you have planned, and it is not due to your fault. Its the feeling of helplessness, impatience and anger at the same time.
What happens then?
You tend to vent out your flustrations, one way or another. It can be towards a person, or non person. Keeping it in would be detrimental to your mental health. Consult profesional help if these feelings occur.

And no, chewing off some1's ears will not help!
=)
Have a happy weekend!

KL - Singapore Express Buses

I Like Singapore, its a great place for a quick getaway, out of my own country. If their currency wasnt so strong, I would love to be there more often than I do now. When I want to go Singapore, I always have to choose the method of getting there. Should I drive, fly or take a bus?
Well, today I'll be discussing on the Express bus option.

With the skies open ing up for budget airlines like Tiger Airways, Jetstar, Airasia and Firefly, one might wonder why is there a need for us to take a bus to Singapore?

After all, a flight would take at most an hour, checking in at a maximum of 1 hour before departure time. All in all, 2 hours max, and you are already in Singapore.

I've not taken the flight to Singapore before but I've taken the express bus to Singapore a few times already. My reason for taking the bus is that, it is too costly to get a cab to the airport. From my place, it takes about 40 minutes to an hour to reach KLIA / LCCT / Subang. That., coupled with checking in 1 hour before departure time and an hours flight. The cost savings would be negated for me. Unless of course I have some1 who is willing to send me and pick me up from the airport.

I also kinda dislike taking the KL Sentral - LCCT bus option, cause I still need to get to KL Sentral on my own 1st, which is a hassle. If I could find a person to send me to KL Sentral...

Oh wait, this shall not be a rant post. The purpose of this post is to introduce the options a person has when deciding to take a bus to Singapore (and vice versa)

There are of course many express bus operators in Malaysia, but I'll only be covering the few with the VIP/Executive option, meaning about 30 seats per bus. LInks to the respective bus companies are provided =)

1st up, Aeroline. I've taken this bus many years ago when they first started. being a kid back then, it was such an excitement to sit on a "VIP" express bus. I've also taken this bus to Singapore last year as well. As far as I'm concerned its a pretty comfy ride. They have a few places where you can catch them. KL City Centre, Sunway Pyramid, 1 Utama, Mines Shopping Centre are the few I can think of. Prices vary due to seasonality and location. The one from Mines (which is pretty near my home) starts as low as RM50 1 way.

Five Star Coach is next up. They have one of the most impressive buses ever seen on this route. They have an 18 seater bus! Never tried them before, but it looks pretty damn impressive. Do check them out.

First Coach is a simple, no frills VIP Express bus to Singapore. You must be wondering how does a VIP bus be no frills? Well what it means is just that they are more spacious e.g. about 30 seats. No frills meaning other than a bottle of mineral water and a bun, you get nothing else. They depart from 3 places in KL: Bangsar LRT, Subang and One Utama. I've taken their bus before its it isnt too shabby at all. Comfy seats... I dont need the extra drinks and others since i sleep most of the time anyway.

NiCE Executive coaches are also an option. They depart from the KTMB building in KL and have frequent trips down South. They also have the same service for up North: Ipoh, Kuantan and Penang.

Last but not least, there is Airebus. They depart from Midvalley (somewhere around the Garden's Entrance) and arrive near the Genting Resort in Singapore. Price wise not too expensive but I've not seen the inside of te bus. But heck, its an Executive bus anyway.

Well this is all I can think of at the moment people. There could be a few more operators plying this route, but I may not know of them. DO inform me about them, and also your experiences with any of these firms.

With that said, Happy travelling to Singapore / Welcome to Malaysia!

Flightless Bird, American Mouth - Iron and Wine

I have to admit, I didn't like watching "Twilight" in the cinema. To me, the movie was very poor. Not that I regret watching the movie, because the best thing to come out of the movie was this song by Iron and Wine.

=)

It seems there is no official music video for this song, so I've looked high and low for a nice MV. This is the best I could find. Enjoy!!

I was a quick, wet boy
Diving too deep for coins
All of your street light eyes
Wide on my plastic toys

Then when the cops closed the fair
I cut my long, baby hair
And stole me a dog-eared map
And called for you everywhere

Have I found you
Flightless bird, jealous, weeping
Or lost you, American mouth
Big pill looming

Now I'm a fat house cat
Nursing my sore, blunt tongue
Watching the warm, poisoned rats
Curl through the wide fence cracks

Pissing on magazine photos
Those fishing lures
Thrown in the cold and clean
Blood of Christ mountain stream

Have I found you
Flightless bird, grounded, bleeding
Or lost you, American mouth
Big pill stuck going down

Especially for you - MYMP

This song was originally sung by Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan (remember them?). This song has been covered by many artistes, but my favourite version has to be this by MYMP. They are a Filipino duo, and they have a a few decent songs!

I love this song!!

Especially for you
I wanna let you know what I was
Going through
All the time we were apart I thought
Of you
You were in my heart
My love never changed
I still feel the same

Especially for you
I wanna tell you I was feeling that
Way too
And if dreams were wings, you
Know
I would have flown to you
To be where you are
No matter how far
And now that I'm next to you

No more dreaming about
Tomorrow
Forget the loneliness and the sorrow
I've got to say
It's all because of you

And now were back together,
Together
I wanna show you my heart is oh so true
And all the love I have is
Especially for you

Especially for you
I wanna tell you, you mean all the world to me
How I'm certain that our love was
Meant to be
You changed my life
You showed me the way
And now that I'm next to you

I've waited long enough to find you
I wanna put all the hurt behind you
And I wanna bring out all the love
Inside you, oh and
Now were back together, together
I wanna show you my heart is oh so true
And all the love I have is
Especially for you

You were in my heart
My love never changed
And now that I'm next to you
No more dreaming about
Tomorrow
Forget the loneliness and the
Sorrow
I've got to say
It's all because of you

And Now were back together, together
I wanna show you my heart is oh so true
And all the love I have is
Especially for you

Together, together
I wanna show you my heart is oh so true
And all the love I have is
Especially for you

Part of the List - Ne-Yo

I kinda remember this song as a nice song. But hardly had this song come on when i loop my music.

Well heard it again today and decided to share it.
The lyrics speak for itself.

Style of your hair
Shape of your eyes and your nose
The way you stare as if you see right through to my soul
It's your left hand and the way it's not quite big as your right
The way you stand in the mirror before we go out at night
Our quiet time, your beautiful mind

They're a part of the list
things that I miss
things like your funny little laugh or the way you smile or the way we kiss
what I notice is this
I come up with
Something new every single time that I sit and reminisce

The way your sweet smell lingers when you leave a room
Stories you tell as we lay in bed all afternoon
I dream you now, every night, in my mind is where we meet
And when I'm awake staring at pictures of you asleep
Touching your face
Invading your space

They're a part of the list
Things that miss things that I miss
things like your funny little laugh or the way you smile or the way we kiss
what I notice is this
I come up with
Something new every single time that I sit and reminisce
Oh
Will you live in my memories forevermore I swear
and you live in my memories forevermore I swear

They're a part of the list
Things that miss
Things that I miss
Things like your funny little laugh or the way you smile or the way we kiss
What I notice is this
I come up with
Something new every single time that I sit and reminisce

Whoaaa said whoaaa I whoaaa whoaaaa whoaaaaa
Whoaaa said whoaaa I whoaaa whoaaaa whoaaaaa

Supergrass - Alright

This song is annoyingly catchy. Can't stop listening to it!
=)

We are young, we run free,
Keep our teeth, nice and clean,
See our friends, see the sights, feel alright,
We wake up, we go out, smoke a fag,
Put it out, see our friends,
See the sights, feel alright,

Are we like you?
I can't be sure,
Of the scene, as she turns,
We are strange in our worlds,

But we are young, we get by,
Can't go mad, ain't got time,
Sleep around, if we like,
But we're alright,
Got some cash, bought some wheels,
Took it out, 'cross the fields,
Lost control, hit a wall,
But we're alright,

Are we like you,
I can't be sure,
Of the scene, as she turns,
We are strange in our worlds,

But we are young, we run green,
Keep our teeth, nice and clean,
See our friends, see the sights, feel alright,

Are we like you,
I can't be sure,
Of the scene, as she turns,
We are strange in our world,

But we are young, we run green,
Keep our teeth, nice and clean,
See our friends, see the sights, feel alright.

100 day Burpee Challenge

I've decided to take up the 100 Day Burpee Challenge organised by my gym, REV Fitness.
So what is a burpee? Is it a person who listen to a burp? (A person who burps is called a burper?)

Of course its not! The definition of a burpee, according to Wikipedia, is is a full body exercise used in strength training and as aerobic exercise. It is performed in four steps:

- Begin in a standing position.
- Drop into a squat position with your hands on the floor in front of you.
- Kick your feet back, while simultaneously lowering yourself into a pushup
- Immediately return your feet to the squat position, while simultaneously pushing up with your arms.
- Leap up as high as possible from the squat position with your arms overhead (you may also clap your hands above your head at the peak of your jump).

The exercise was named in the 1930s for American psychologist Royal H. Burpee, who developed the Burpee test. Consisting of a series of the exercises performed in rapid succession, the test was meant to measure agility and coordination.[1] It is not clear whether the exercise itself was invented by Burpee, or if his test merely popularized it.

******************************

I've included a Youtube instructional video on how to do a burpee as per below:

So what is the 100 day challenge? From day 1 of the challenge, I will do 1 burpee. Day 2, 2 burpees, Day 3, 3 burpees until Day 100; where I will do a hundred burpees.

If lets say you skipped Day 8 and Day 9, you continue it on Day 10, you would have to do 8+9+10 burpees. That would be 27 burpees. So there ain't no skipping, if you do, you still have to make up for the lost days when you decide to continue it again.

So I just started the challenge today, and in my gym, its already Day 8 of the challenge. That meant that I had to do a total of 36 burpees (1+2+3+4...+8) tonight. Tomorrow i'm back on schedule, doing just 9 only.

Anyone, wants to take up this challenge with me?

List: Wedding Song's I'd Like to Have

This was one of the topics that I had on the long journey back from Triang to KL; with FO and MN.

We cracked our heads trying to think of the most romantic songs to be played at each of our weddings (Not easy considering it was past midnight after a long day). The first song that popped into my head was Etta james' At Last, but of course that song has been overused countless time.

Well after giving it a little more thought, here is my list (in no particular order);though I'm pretty sure i cant remember a few that i really like) :-

From this moment
At Last
I finally found some1
Always be my baby
Baby I love your way
My valentine
Have I told you lately
Close to you
Cant smile without you
Fallen
Can’t help falling in love
Can’t take my eyes off you
My girl
Unforgettable
Nothing’s gonna change my love for you
Kau Ilhamku

Wonderful Tonight
Everytime I close my eyes

I didn't put up the singer's name cause most of the songs here have been covered over and over again by other artistes. Some original versions are nice while I like the recycled versions for others.

What other songs do you have in mind?

How I Met Your Mother

Friend who followed me on Facebook would know that I'm currently nuts over a TV series called "How I Met Your Mother" (HIMYM). I have all the 5 seasons and I'm currently waiting for the 6th season to begin.
This is the Synopsis according to Wikipedia:

How I Met Your Mother is an American situation comedy that premiered on CBS on September 19, 2005. The show was created by Craig Thomas and Carter Bays.

As a framing device, the main character, Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor),[1] with narration by Bob Saget, in the year 2030 recounts to his son and daughter the events that led to his meeting their mother, which explains the title and allows for a narration in the past tense. How I Met Your Mother's other main characters are Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel), Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders), Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), and Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan).[1]

***********************

In my opinion, this show trumps Friends as the ultimate buddy sitcom. This series has a lot of references to the future and the past. After watching the 1st and 2nd season, you can already feel that the writers have wrote the script for this series to last a couple of season. Some references in the 1st season will be shown in the 3rd season while some future episodes will refer to an earlier situation faced.

Yes, it is a comedy that you should follow from the 1st season.

I love the main character, Ted Mosby as he feels like a relatable person who is looking for his true love. He is a man who is jsut tired of the dating scene and hopes to find "the one" as soon as possible. He mentions that he is a lousy boyfirend but is a damn good husband material, LOL!.

The chemistry among this group of friends is also amazing and they always make references to their own inside jokes. Neil Patrick Harris is wonderful as the wing man, Barney Stinson. He even has a spin off book, which is called "The Bro Code" to which he makes references to throught the series. Another book is also on the way, entitled "The Playbook" which Barney refers to in the series to pick up women.

I highly recommend this series if you are looking for some really good fun with a bunch of friends.

I'm looking forward to September, when they start airing the 6th season =)

Doppelganger

Doppel what?? Some might ask.

Doppelganger, according to Wikipedia, is a tangible double of a living person that typically represents evil. In the vernacular, the word doppelgänger has come to refer (as in German) to any double or look-alike of a person. The word is also used to describe the sensation of having glimpsed oneself in peripheral vision, in a position where there is no chance that it could have been a reflection. Doppelgängers are often perceived as a sinister form of bilocation and generally regarded as harbingers of bad luck. In some traditions, a doppelgänger seen by a person's friends or relatives portends illness or danger, while seeing one's own doppelgänger is an omen of death. In Norse mythology, a vardøger is a ghostly double who precedes a living person and is seen performing their actions in advance.

In popular culture today, doppelganger literally means a person who looks very similar to us, physically speaking. A good example would be a picture below of the Barack Obama and his doppelganger.

I was always told that there is always one person in this world that looks exactly like us. And that person is not related by blood to us. Not sure if that theory is proven true, but since there are 6 billion people on this planet, I think that could be a possibility. If he is out there, I'd really like to have the opportunity to meet him.

Speaking of doppelgangers, we are actually our own doppelgangers, 1 way or another. While our looks have not changed much over the past few years (unless you are going through puberty, then this does not apply to you), we definitely would have changed as a person on the inside.

The same can be said to our real life doppelgangers (if they are out there). They would look like us, but I'm pretty sure they may not have the exact same characteristics or behaviours as us.

Back to my earlier point, yes, I am a vastly different person from the person I was 3 years ago. Despite having higher highs, and lower lows than before, I do feel that I am more AWESOME than I was last time ;-p

I definitely never really lived back those days, never took any chances, risks. I was very introverted back then, and now I'm less introverted (while those who know me think I'm somehow perverted ;-p). Some things I have done that has made me proud and happy just even thinking about it. The bad parts, well, we never really want to remember those, do we?

We should always look on the positive side as we will never know what is in store for us. 1 thing I know, is that what ever that may come, I should be brave enough to take a chance and experience it.

How about a toast to our old, doppelganger self. Without them, we wouldn't be where we are today. More awesome, and soon to be even more AWESOME-R!!!

:-D

Mistakes

" There are only 2 mistakes along the way to the truth that one makes; not going all the way, and not starting "

It is funny how we must usually learn from mistakes. More importantly, the mistakes we make.
How is it possible that despite having history, friends and families to learn upon, we still makes the same mistakes? Do we actually enjoy hearing the much dreaded phrase : I told you so?

No its not an emo post today. I was just driving back and was just reminiscing about the mistakes I've made in the past. And you know what? It brought a smile to my face. It is nice to know that i can look back upon the mistakes I make and think it is funny. By making light of the situation, it is easier on me and I can learn from it without feeling so much pain of getting it wrong the last time.

More often than not, I get super frustrated when I make a mistake (usually the 1st week), get emo and etc. However, it is strange that I do not use the same philosophy I have with mistakes that I use on Job Interviews.
My philosophy for job interviews is just to apply for any job that you may fancy. Don't be too choosy, widen your horizons a little further. Then once people are calling you up for interviews, do not reject them, even if you think there is almost no chance of you being interested in joining them.
They may just surprise you. In any case, even if it doesn't work out, or you screw up the interview, it doesn't really matter. You will definitely have gained experience and learnt something from it.
When your dream company calls you up for the dream position you've been waiting for, you are now ready to jump on this opportunity. Using you previous experiences, you will definitely be less nervous, and you can do much better in the interview. So all your previous job interviews will definitely give you an edge here.
Same thing with life. Sometimes, when we are in doubt of ourselves, just do it. Take a chance. So what if in the timing was wrong, or you could have chosen a better opportunity. At least when you've done it, you know what it takes the next time another opportunity arises. You might bash yourself thinking that was probably your best chance blown. Don't beat yourself up too hard. You don't know for sure what's coming up around the corner, or a month from now or 5 years down the road. Stay positive and tell yourself: when the RIGHT opportunity comes around, you are now better equipped to make the most of this.
The right opportunity will just. Wait for it...

Blood, Sweat & Takeaways

This was a series I just watched on the Asian Food Channel. Its a reality show where 6 Brits are sent to some part of the world to see where their food comes from.

It is really an eye opener for me as well as today they were supposed to see how the frozen prawns in their British supermarket ended there. They were first sent to Indonesia to work in a Fresh Water prawn farm.

They worked in muddy conditions, doing hard labour while trying to keep the prawns frome scaping during high tides due to the heavy rain. And for about 2 weeks work, the farm yielded 80kgs of fresh prawns and they were paid about 40k rupiahs, just about enough for a McValue meal.

Next, they worked in a prawn processing factory in Indonesia where the average worker had to peel about 1000 prawns an hour, without defect. And their wage? about 40 pence per hour.

It's shocking how little these people are paid when freshly peeled prawns are sold at about 25-30 pounds(Brit currency) per kilo. Its obvious that the middle men take most of the cut. And there is so much haqrd intensive labour involved.

I think this show will teach us to appreciate the food that is served on our tables and not to complain orr waste. Food is a very precious resource and we should think about how much hard work is involved to get the food on our plates.

Highly recommended TV series. Next week, they will be working in the Paddy fields of Thailand. Should be an interesting watch =)
