Have we run out of news to report?

Looking at the news in the Star online today (I assume its the same for the printed copy), the headline is dedicated to a guy called Jho Low, whom they say is very famous, and leads a very lavish lifestyle, parties with Paris Hilton and etc... Throw in some name dropping and you have news??

Famous ar? How come I never heard of him before wan? I've heard of a lot of top corporate big-wigs and millionaires, and he is not one of them. Very famous? I don't think so. Never seen him on the E Channel if the Star claims he's such a high profile with the stars.

Here I am sitting and wondering to myself, yes, today the paper just made him famous, otherwise, none of us Star readers would know this name (1.6 million readers if i'm not wrong. So Kudos to Jho, he is now a household name in Malaysia).

So what are we to conclude from this story? That he was born into a rich family, went to a very expensive, albeit super expensive, and made full use of his contacts there. Well at least he didn't turn out to be a spoilt brat. He made even more money than his family probably makes. Kudos to him.

But what about us, ordinary citizens who went to Sekolah Kebangsaan and Local University? Is any1 who made it from this background going to have his life story published on the front page of a national daily?

Seriously, as the Chief Editor of the Star, I think the headlines should always be reserved to news that actually affects us citizens, not to tell the story of a young man who made it big. News items like the PKFZ fiasco, Selangor Sand Mining theft and other things deserve to be in the headlines. A headline with Jho Low's story just makes the paper feel like the Malay Mail.

Gosh, now I really begin to wonder what goes into the mind of the editor before allowing the story to be published as a headline. No hard feelings, Jho Low, but I think your story should be highlighted, but just not as the headline. And the Star calls it elusive. Do we Malaysians even know him in the first place? if not, how would they know that his story is front page material?

I really hope the Star bucks up or they will continue to lose more readers. Unimportant articles like on the front page? Pffttt.... A story of Ananda's privatisation would be more earth shattering. taking another 2 of his companies private. Cost him RM 5 billion leh.... Now that is news!

Cry Me Out

Yes, its Pixie Lott.
Hot Damn, when I saw her music video in Karaoke last night. =)

I got your emails
You just don’t get females
Now, do you?
What’s in my heart
Is not in your head
Anyway..

Mate, you’re too late
And you weren’t worth the wait
Now, were you?
It’s out of my hands
Since you blew your last chance
When you played me

You’ll have to cry me out
You’ll have to cry me out
The tears that'll fall
Mean nothing at all
It’s time to get over yourself

Baby, you ain’t all that
Baby, there’s no way back
You can keep talking
But baby, I’m walking away

When I found out
How you messed me about
I was broken (heartbroken)
Back then I believed you
Now, I don’t need you
No more

The pic on your phone
Proves you weren’t alone
She was with you, yeah
Now, I couldn’t care
About who, what or where
We’re through

You’ll have to cry me out
You’ll have to cry me out
The tears that'll fall
Mean nothing at all
It’s time to get over yourself

Baby, you ain’t all that
Baby, there’s no way back
You can keep talking
But baby, I’m walking away

Gonna have to cry me out
Gonna have to cry me out
Boy, there ain’t no doubt
Gonna have to cry me out

Won’t hurt a little bit
Boy, better get used to it
You can keep talking
But baby, I’m walking away

You’ll have to cry me out
You’ll have to cry me out
The tears that'll fall
Mean nothing at all
It’s time to get over yourself

You'll Have to cry me out

Feeling Sore After A Workout? Don't Stop!

I was just talking to my friend about Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) the day after she tried out my gym. This is not a bad thing to have.

I know there are many people who are eager to get fit, and they hit the gym or play some sports for the first time in a long time. The next day, they feel this soreness that is so bad, they can hardly move properly. Then they think, hey this isn't worth the pain lah...

Thats is where they are wrong. It is actually good for them, in the long run. This shows that their muscles have been given a good workout and they are just needing some time to recover. Of course, they will feel less pain as they continue exercising.

Below is an article i found online about DOMS, and why it is a good thing =)
Enjoy reading it!

*********

Delayed onset muscle soreness is common after exercise and usually means your muscles are getting stronger.

WebMD Feature

Starting a workout program can be challenging. Making the time to exercise, creating a balanced routine, and setting goals are hard enough, but add to that the muscle soreness that comes with adapting to that regimen, and it may be difficult to stay on track.

Chances are, you won't be leaping out of bed to get to the gym when it hurts to hold your arm up to brush your teeth.

After participating in some kind of strenuous physical activity, particularly something new to your body, it is common to experience muscle soreness, say experts.

"Muscles go through quite a bit of physical stress when we exercise," says Rick Sharp, professor of exercise physiology at Iowa State University in Ames.

"Mild soreness just a natural outcome of any kind of physical activity," he says. "And they're most prevalent in beginning stages of a program."

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness
Exercise physiologists refer to the gradually increasing discomfort that occurs between 24 and 48 hours after activity as delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), and it is perfectly normal.

"Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is a common result of physical activity that stresses the muscle tissue beyond what it is accustomed to," says David O. Draper, professor and director of the graduate program in sports medicine/athletic training at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

To be more specific, says Draper, who's also a member of the heat-responsive pain council, delayed onset muscle soreness occurs when the muscle is performing an eccentric or a lengthening contraction. Examples of this would be running downhill or the lengthening portion of a bicep curl.

"Small microscopic tears occur in the muscle," he says.

The mild muscle strain injury creates microscopic damage to the muscle fibers. Scientists believe this damage, coupled with the inflammation that accompanies these tears, causes the pain.

"The aches and pains should be minor," says Carol Torgan, an exercise physiologist and fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, "and are simply indications that muscles are adapting to your fitness regimen."

Even Bodybuilders Get Them
No one is immune to muscle soreness. Exercise neophytes and body builders alike experience delayed onset muscle soreness.

"Anyone can get cramps or DOMS, from weekend warriors to elite athletes," says Torgan. "The muscle discomfort is simply a symptom of using your muscles and placing stresses on them that are leading to adaptations to make them stronger and better able to perform the task the next time."

But for the deconditioned person starting out, this can be intimidating. People starting an exercise program need guidance, Torgan says.

"The big problem is with people that aren't very fit and go out and try these things; they get all excited to start a new class and the instructors don't tell them that they might get sore," she says.

"To them they might feel very sore, and because they aren't familiar with it, they might worry that they've hurt themselves. Then they won't want to do it again."

Letting them know it's OK to be sore may help them work through that first few days without being discouraged.

Ease Those Aching Muscles
So what can you do to alleviate the pain?

"Exercise physiologists and athletic trainers have not yet discovered a panacea for DOMS," says Draper, "however, several remedies such as ice, rest, anti-inflammatory medication, massage, heat, and stretch have been reported as helpful in the process of recovery."

Stretching and flexibility are underrated, says Sharp.

"People don't stretch enough," he says. "Stretching helps break the cycle," which goes from soreness to muscle spasm to contraction and tightness.

Take it easy for a few days while your body adapts, says Torgan. Or try some light exercise such as walking or swimming, she suggests. Keeping the muscle in motion can also provide some relief.

"Probably the most important thing is to have a cool-down phase after your workout," says Draper. Right before finishing, include 10 or so minutes of "easy aerobic work such as jogging or walking followed by stretching."

At Brigham Young, Draper has been researching the use of heat remedies to treat muscle soreness. In clinical tests, a portable air-activated heat wrap -- in this case a product called ThermaCare -- applied directly to the skin was beneficial to subjects.

"When muscle temperature is increased, blood flow increases, bringing fresh oxygen and healing nutrients to the injured site," he says. "This increased blood flow also helps to wash away the chemical irritants responsible for pain."

While sore, don't expect to set personal records. Most likely, during a bout of DOMS, your exercise potential will be out of reach, says Draper. Delayed onset muscle soreness usually affects only the body parts that were worked, so perhaps you can work other muscle groups while letting the fatigued ones recover.

In a nutshell, don't beat yourself up. Just take it easy.

"Since there's a loss in muscle strength, athletic performance won't be at peak levels for a few days," says Torgan, "so it's best to plan a few days of easy exercise to prevent further muscle damage and reduce the likelihood of injury."

Don't Get in a Rut
It's also a process of muscle conditioning. Torgan says delayed onset muscle soreness also has a "repeated bouts" effect.

"If someone does an activity, they will be inoculated for a few weeks to a few months -- the next time they do the activity, there will be less muscle tissue damage, less soreness, and a faster strength recovery."

This is why athletes often cross-train and vary their routines to continue to challenge and develop their muscle strength.

It is important to distinguish the difference between moderate muscle soreness induced by exercise and muscle overuse or injury.

"If soreness prevents you from performing daily activities associated with living and work, then that is too much soreness," Draper says. "It can psychologically deter someone from continuing a workout program."

Both Draper and Torgan stress that soreness is not necessary to see improvements.

"There are all kinds of different little roads that your muscles can take to get stronger," says Torgan. Regardless of whether you're sore, there are still improvements occurring in your muscles during exercise.

However, moderate muscle pain might go a long way to keeping someone on the path to fitness.

"Soreness can serve as encouragement in a workout program because people like immediate results. Muscle doesn't visibly [grow] overnight; nor does your time in the mile drop from eight to six minutes," says Draper. "So something like soreness can give people encouragement that they are in fact working the muscle."

So work out and get in shape!!

5 Pictures #1

I've been running dry on ideas recently and this is something I thought of. I will, on and off, post 5 pictures which I took recently that I like. I will then tell the story behind the picture. So how about that? I can now combine my hobby of photography and blogging about recent happenings without sounding like a "this is what i did today" blog ;-p

The pics are of low quality cause I'm afraid of photo piracy issues, hehehe

Rain drops. It's always funny how the weather can affect how we feel.

Wait a minute, this isn't the story for this picture. I'll talk about that later in another post. This picture was taken after multiple times trying to focus with my new camera. As it only has autofocus, sometimes it wouldn't focus on the object I want. Hence the advatage of having a DSLR. But yeah, this camera gives me flexibility and freedom of movement.

I caught the picture I want of raindrops on my car window and bokeh lights at the right end of the picture =)

This panoramic shot was taken at the recent Floria 2010 Festival. Its a floral festival but the picture I chose to share has nothing to do with flowers. It's a picture of my 2 friends from high school, TJ and JL. After almost 10 years together, still going strong =)

Well, about the festival, most of the flowers are the same (the tropical weather kinda limited what we could see). Not much in terms of variety, but I guess a good photographer will be able to snap some really good flower shots anyway

Rev. Thats the new gym I've just joined. Kinda empty right?

Its not your typical gym, I can assure you. The gym practices a method of workout called Crossfit. Click on the link to see how Crossfit helps us in our daily lives. And Click on Rev's link if ur interested to find out more.

Love this place as the workouts are fun. The trainers are very friendly and eager to help.

Alternatively, you can always ask me =)

The World Cup 2010 in South Africa. Finally over and its back to the football withdrawal syndrome. Good thing is that next month is August and the European football season begins!

And oh, congratulations to Spain, for winning the cup. My tip before the tournament began won, muahahahah!!!

Angkor Wat. This is the view from the East Gate. Rarely taken picture. Hence you guys should feel lucky I posted this up ;-p

A place with wonderful history, culture and people.
Definitely a great holiday destination. Once again, you can always ask me for tips about this place if you are planning to go there yourself.

It's a place you gotta go at least once in your life =)

Love is Patient, Love is Kind

Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous;

love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly;

it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered,

does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;

bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails...But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7,13

******

Yes the above verse is extracted from the Bible. No I've not converted to Christianity, but I do like this verse. It sounds really simple doesnt it? But most of the time, it is easier than it looks on paper.

Yes I maybe cheesy but I feel that to live without love is like not living your life to the fullest. It can be at most, half full =)

FOr those who don't understand the meaning of the verse above, here is a simple breakdown of what each phrase means:

Love is patient,
True love is unconditional, that is, it does not depend on the attributes or lack thereof of the person loved, therefore, it is willing to give as much time necessary, and as much space as necessary for that person to grow.

love is kind and is not jealous;
Love seeks to give others something of benefit for their welfare, and consequently, rejoices when they do benefit.

love does not brag and is not arrogant,
To lift one's self up in reference to others leaves no room for unconditional, graceful love.

does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own,
To act inappropriately, shamefully (morally, especially in the area of sexual purity) is not in accordance with true love. Love never seeks it's own gratificaiton but rather the interests of others.

is not provoked,
Selfishness seeks to manipulate others by stimulating certain selfish emotions. Love will not do this to others, nor will it let it happen to itself.

does not take into account a wrong suffered,
Forgivenss. Let it go. Bitterness is the acid. You are the container. Get rid of it or it will kill you.

does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;
Love does not somehow gloss over things that are going to be hurtful. True love originates from the truth.

bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
If love really is unconditional, it will hold any weight, face any doubt, persist through hopelessness, and last any trial

Love never fails...
If it did, would it be love?

But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Someday, faith will not be needed, for we will see God. Hope will not be needed, for when everything is fulfilled, there is no need for hope. But love, yes, to it there will be no end. If it did, it wouldn't be love

You're My Inspiration (Kau Ilhamku)

Thanks to the posting my ex-gym instructor, I have heard a song which I used to love a lot. I still love this song! Reminds me of the good ole days as usual =)

Enjoy the song by Manbai

Beribu bintang dilangit
Kini menghilang
Meraba aku dalam kelam
Rembulan mengambang
Kini makin suram
Pudar ilhamku tanpa arah

Sedetik wajahmu muncul
Dalam diam
Ada kerdipan ada sinar
Itukah bintang atau rembulan
Terima kasih kuucapkan

1
Izinkan kumencuri bayangan wajahmu
Izinkan ku mencuri khayalan denganmu
Maafkanlah oh...
Andai lagu ini
Mengganggu ruangan hidupmu
Kau senyumlah oh...
Sekadar memori
Kita di arena ini
Kau ilhamku
Kau ilhamku...

A Disturbing Trend Among the Commenters in News Portals

Sometimes when I read our local news portals (I.e. Star, Straits Times and etc) I wonder why they do not have a section for comments at the bottom of their page. International news portals like CNN and etc allow people to comment on the news, so why can’t we have that as well? Shouldn’t we be able to gauge the public opinion by just reading the comments on the articles?

Of course, we have the alternative news portals like Malaysia Insider, Malaysia Today and etc which allows the public to comment on pieces of news.

Having read the comments off the articles there, I can definitely gauge the feelings of the commenters. It is almost impossible not to be able to sense the sentiments while reading them comments. That is, unless you are illiterate ;-p

I have come to the conclusion that most Malaysian commenters are not do not really give good comments. Most of it is always one way. Negative. Name calling. Insulting. Racist. But what about constructive criticism? Close to zilch. Sometimes I wonder why the people leave such comments which do not contribute much to the article. Comments like “Hidup PR!!” “Dear PM, you suck!!” are of no use. They waste my bandwidth. Honestly, anyone educated reading all these comments will laugh at your intellectual level. Venting frustrations is okay, but at least give some form of reasoning, not just something short and stupid like the 2 examples I’ve just given.

I guess now I know why in some countries, they have comments section on their sites while ours doesn’t have. Most of us are incapable of giving smart comments.

And the funny thing is that if 1 commenter says something good about the government, his comment will be rated lowly and he will be accused of being a pet of some politician and other insults coming his way. It seems that the only people who comment are just expressing their anti government sentiments, and not thinking with rationale.

They will complain about price hikes and etc, and say that if the Opposition takes over, the prices will be lower. Are these people dumb?? Gosh… I can bet with you that even if the Opposition takes over, the prices of essential goods will still have to go up. Our country is already in too much debt due to mismanagement of funds. Of course we can always point fingers, but stern actions, no matter how costly will have to be taken.

All we can hope is that the money saved from all these subsidies are used in the right manner. It is of course understandable for the people to be angry when the Govt tells you they haven’t got money to give our children scholarships or pay for our medical bills and yet are considering building a new Parliament building. They are also already building a new Palace for our King (which many people are questioning the move) which costs RM 800 million. The savings from the recent subsidies is RM 750 million, which isn’t even enough to cover the cost of building the Palace.

What we really need is transparency and accountability for all these govt spending. The govt has to be prudent and prioritise the projects which are important towards giving us a brighter future. We cannot say we don’t have money to send kids to universities and yet build a new Palace for the King? Can the King, with his new Palace, educate thousands of students every year for free? Prioritise please.

And for the commenters who think that the Opposition will not raise prices, dream on. Prices are going up all over the world. We should live in the real world. But what we really want is actually for our country to start becoming competitive and stop all the leakages thru corruption and nepotism.

Till then, we will continuously have uneducated voters in every general election whose votes are always based on which government can continue subsidizing them. How is this any different from the government bribing every1? Isn’t this form of bribery to keep you happy, to keep you voting for them; a waste of money?

So commenters and fellow voters, please think wisely before you post up a comment / mark your ballot papers…

Ideas ebb and flow...

Like the tides. When it is high tide, I seem to have endless ideas on what to post on the blog. On the days when the tide is low, I'm usually too occupied to think. I don't think. And hence, I have no ideas.

Its times like these when i struggle to come up with material to blog about.
I try to force myself to think creatively, but it doesnt work. U cannot force creativity. It will work when it wants to...

So what have I been up to that made me so idea-less?

The fact that I've been doing a lot of workout foe the past 3 weeks.
This weeks schedule is:

Sunday - Badminton
Monday - Gym
Tuesday - Futsal
Wednesday - Gym
Thursday - Badminton
Friday - Futsal
Saturday - Badminton
Sunday - Badminton and Futsal
Monday - Gym
Tuesday - Futsal...

The next time I'll probably take a break is next Wednesday. Some may fear that i will suffer a burnout. But at the moment, I dont feel burned out. Not tonight. Not anytime soon I hope.

The only side effect from all these is that I tend to need more hours of sleep nowadays. And the best thing is I actually fall asleep easier at night.

I usedto take a long time to fall asleep, tossing and turning in bed, with my mind wandering. Now, my mind is just too tired. Oh yes, the other side effect is my lack of ideas for this blog.
I really hope its not related :-(

FIFA World Cup 2010 : My Prediction for the Final

Netherlands vs Spain
After 6 weeks of brutal matches (some what brutal to the viewers as some matches were a torture to go thrugh), we have finally reached the last game of the Fifa World Cup in South Africa.
The finalists here are Netherlands and Spain. Do they deserve to be here? Yes. Have they played the best football to reach the final? No. But they have played better than each of the team they have played against. They have deserved their victories in every game thus far.

Both these teams have the potential to play really good attacking football. But it seems their coaches has made it a point to the players that defensive suties are not to be ignored. Both played well in bits and changed to a higher gear when they needed the win. But they are capable of slowing down the game and frustrating the opponents as well.
The wealth of attacking talent on show tonight is immense. Villa, Torres, Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Van Persie, Kuyt, Robben, Sneijder are all great attacking talents who deserve to be playing on the biggest stage of world football.
In terms of the offensive side, I think Both are almost equal. On the defnesive side however, Spain has not been really tested. Despite beating Germany and Portugal, both these teams did not play their usual brand of attacking football. They hardly troubled the Spanish defence. The Dutch however, have shown defensive strength, winnign all their qualifying games as well as all World Cup matches till tonight's final.
For midfield strength, I think Spain slightly shades this. Alonso, Xavi and Iniesta. Getting the ball from this trifecta is not going to be easy. For the Dutch to win this game, they MUST stop these 3 players from controlling the game. Pressing them and putting them under pressure so they will lose possession. The Dutch will not be able to beat the Spanish if they cannot get the ball. And this is what happened to Germany and Portugal. 2 attacking teams couldn't play their usual game simply because they were not able to get the ball.
If the Dutch can unsettle these trio, then they have a great chance of winning the game.
For me, I tip Spain to do just enough to beat the Dutch, just like they have done just enough to beat every other team.
Spain to win this 1-0 or 2-1, before penalties.
Although this game will be a battle of the midfield, I'm still crossing my fingers for some end to end football =)

10 Tricks for Relieving Anxiety / Stress

I read this article on today's Star newspaper and I really feel that I should share this with you. I searched online for the original article. Click here for the original article by HealthNewsDigest.

Most of us will have to deal with some form of Anxiety or Stress in our daily lives. It could be due to our professional or personal life. What it occupies out thoughts and affects our actions and health at the same time.

Below is the article which I have copied and pasted from the above site. MY comments in green italics

****

(HealthNewsDigest.com) - Hoboken, NJ — Picture this: you are lying in your bed at the end of a long, stressful day. But as you try to will your body to sleep, your mind has other plans. The worries you've pushed aside all day begin to creep in: your performance at work, your mortgage payment, your children's health, your marriage, the housework. Before you know it that familiar old feeling overwhelms you. Your heart races, your skin crawls, and you feel as though there is just no help for any of it. Once again, a peaceful night's sleep has been interrupted by that silent yet powerful epidemic that is sweeping our country: anxiety.

"Garden variety" stressors aside, it's no wonder anxiety is our nation's number one mental health disorder. Natural disasters, terrorism, financial collapse, pandemics, crime, and war threaten the security of our homes and family. And that's just on the morning news before breakfast! It's a disorder that millions of people suffer from, but few talk about, and Overcoming Anxiety For Dummies®, 2nd Edition is working to change that fact.

"If you walk down the street on any given day, about one in four of the people you walk by either has an anxiety disorder or will suffer from one at some point in their lives," write Dr. Charles Elliott and Dr. Laura Smith, coauthors of Overcoming Anxiety For Dummies, 2nd Edition (Wiley Publishing Inc., April 2010, ISBN: 978-0-470-57441-6, $21.99).

"Anxiety is much more than just feeling 'worried,'" they continue. "It can involve feelings of uneasiness, worry, apprehension, and fear. It can create havoc in your home, destroy relationships, cause employees to miss work, and prevent people from living full, productive lives."

If you are suffering from the same everyday stresses as most people, and you want to stop letting anxiety take over your life day after day, Overcoming Anxiety For Dummies, 2nd Edition offers the following ten tips for getting those anxious feelings in check and getting you back in control:

Breathe out your anxiety. (Something like yoga breathing exercises, always helps. You can close your eyes while you take a deep breath. Clear your mind and not think of anything at all)
Anxiety makes your breathing shallow and rapid. And rapid, shallow breathing has a way of increasing anxiety—not a useful cycle. Using a quick and easy breathing technique can help you to restore a calming pattern of breathing. If anxiety attacks you, try following these four simple steps to help you find some relief:

1. Inhale deeply through your nose.

2. Hold your breath for a few seconds.

3. Slowly let your breath out through your lips while making a slight sound—hissing, sighing, or whatever comes naturally.

4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for a minimum of ten breaths.

Bend a friendly ear. (I think this is what most of us do all the time. Thats what friends are for :-)
Anxiety is a lonely feeling, and in turn, loneliness increases anxiety. Research shows that social support helps people deal with almost any type of emotional distress, so reaching out to friends and family is a great way to help stop an anxiety attack quickly. Call a trusted friend to confide in, or stop by for a visit with a parent or sibling and talk to them about what's going on with you. No doubt you would do the same for someone else, so don't worry about "burdening" loved ones with your problems. They want to help!

If you find yourself without friends or someone you feel you can turn to, call upon a minister, priest, or rabbi. Or, if you have no religious connections, call a crisis line. Whatever outlet you choose, know that there is help out there in the form of a living, breathing human that you can confide in.

Exercise to exorcise. (This is what I am doing at the moment. Some of my friends would deem my case as crazy, with my all out enthusiasm ;-p I'm too restless to sit around doing nothing)
When an anxiety attack occurs, it floods your body with adrenaline—a chemical produced by your body that causes your heart to beat faster, muscles to tighten, and various other body sensations that feel distressing. Fortunately, burning off adrenaline is easy to do—a quick jog around the neighborhood will provide instant relief.

Actually, almost any type of aerobic exercise will effectively burn off adrenaline and provide you with relief from symptoms related to stress and anxiety. In addition to jogging, you can try taking a long, fast walk, dancing, jumping rope, or playing a game of tennis. Exercise is a great way to relieve your anxiety AND stay in shape at the same time. It's a win-win!

Try a soothing tension treatment. (I know a lot of people who do this. When I go on holidays I enjoy this as well)
The most distressing aspect of anxiety is the way that it makes your body feel—tense, queasy, racy, and tight. There are some quick and simple ways that you can temporarily break through the tension and help to relieve your anxiety. For example, you can soak in a hot bath or take a long, hot shower. A 15-minute massage from your spouse or friend (or a longer one from a professional if you can afford it!) will also help. Or try lying on a heating pad or sitting in a chair that has a vibrating massager as well. Relieving the tension in your body will help your mind relax as well.

Calm down with a cup of tea. (My all time favourite tea, chamomile really keeps me relaxed and dreamy, hehehe. Thanks to Jaime for introducing this tea to me years ago =)
Certain herbal teas, like chamomile, reportedly have relaxing properties. Keep a selection of herbal teas in your cupboard, and when you feel anxious, heat up a cup of your favorite brew. Hold the cup in your hands, breathe the warm scent, and spend a couple of moments enjoying the comfort of sipping tea. Concentrate on the soothing sensation and the luxury of sitting quietly and feel your anxiety begin to melt away.

(Be careful to stay away from caffeinated teas, however, especially if caffeine bothers you.)

Examine the evidence. (I overdo this. Which actually compounds the anxiety and stress. Not good if you overdo it!)
The way you think strongly influences the way you feel. Anxious people have a tendency to think about things in ways that increase their anxiety. One of the best ways to deal with anxiety is to examine the evidence for your anxious thoughts. First, write down what you are worried about, and then ask yourself some questions about those thoughts. For example, ask yourself:

Is this worry truly as awful as I'm thinking it is?
Could some evidence contradict my anxious thoughts?
In a year, how important will this event be to me?
Am I making a dire prediction without any real basis?
After answering these questions, try to write down a more realistic perspective. It will help you to stop feeling so overwhelmed and to feel more in control of your anxiety.

Make a mellow mix tape. (Maybe thats why I like jazz and slower songs. Keeps me destressed at all times. But I do admit that I overkill on emo songs sometimes. Ok, everytime)
Sounds have a big influence on the way we feel—they can evoke strong emotions, thoughts, and physical reactions. Think about it this way: if you listen to fingernails scraping across a blackboard, how do you feel? Most people report that it gives them a creepy, anxious feeling. Just as unpleasant sounds can unnerve you, soothing sounds can calm you down and soothe anxiety. Select some music that you find relaxing. Get comfortable and close your eyes. Turn the volume to a comforting level, relax, and listen. Allow yourself to give in to the feelings the music evokes and forget about your worries as your body and mind relax.

Escape into a good book (or TV show or video game). (This is a good suggestion, but avoid watching or reading emo movies/books which may make you feel worse. Mindless games works even better =)
As a general rule, avoiding your anxiety is not a good idea. However, if you are in a situation where you need to calm down quickly, or if you still haven't mastered the art of dealing with your anxiety, distractions can be helpful. If you want to escape from your worries for awhile, consider getting lost in a good book, a riveting movie, a challenging video game, or even some mindless television. Allowing your brain to focus on something else for awhile will give your mind a rest and give you the chance to get back in control of any anxiety you feel.

Get busy (wink, wink!). (How I wished I had a stress reliever like the one suggested here, hehehe ;-) Any volunteers? Hey that way 2 ppl can relieve their stress and have fun and workout at the same time. Win-win situation right?)
If you have an available, willing partner, sex is one of the best ways to relax. It will certainly take your mind off anxiety, and like aerobic exercise, it burns off adrenaline. It's the perfect combination of anxiety-reducing techniques to have you feeling good in no time!

However, some anxiety sufferers get anxious about their sexual performance. If that applies to you, then this strategy may not be right for you—at least until you overcome your anxiety about this issue. Until then, one of the other nine tips may be more suited for you!

Practice living in the moment. (This is the comment I get a lot from my friends. That I worry too much and don't live for the moment. I tried living for the moment, and it didnt actually work out for me, lol!! I guess I cannot over-live in the moment ;-p)
It may sound cheesy or cliché, but staying present and focusing on the here and now can be very powerful when it comes to overcoming your anxiety. Think about the things you are worried about. Chances are it's something that hasn't even happened yet and may never occur. The fact is, almost 90 percent of what people worry about never actually happens. And if it does occur, it rarely ends up being as catastrophic as the worries predict.

So focus on the here and now. Think about what you are doing. Look around you. Notice how the air feels as it goes in and out of your nose. Feel your feet and the muscles in your legs as you sit. If you still feel anxious, realize that the feelings will pass eventually and they won't harm you. If you accept feeling just a bit anxious, the feelings abate more quickly than if you tell yourself to be rid of them at once. Enjoy the moment and let go of those things that haven't (and may never!) happened yet.

"If you think you worry too much, you're not alone," conclude Elliott and Smith. "And there is some relief in knowing that others have come before you and have overcome anxiety—so you will too. Just keep your focus on the positives, surround yourself with a strong support system, and let yourself enjoy this life you've been given. You'll find your way out of the clouds and into the sunshine in no time."

***************

Hope the above article will help you in your daily lives. I know I've been practicing a few of these to let my worries and sorrows slip away =). Time to live for happier times tomorrow onwards!

FIFA World Cup 2010 : My Prediction 3rd-4th Placing

Germany vs Uruguay

Most people wouldn't be betting on this match tonight. It's basically a loser's battle.
Well not to say loser lah, they are after all the top 4 teams in the tournament. But usually teams that play in match are usually too gutted about losing in the semis to be motivated for this match.

That being said, both teams should be proud to have reached this far as no1 would have predicted them to reach the semi finals. Both teams have played pretty well in the tournament. I do feel that the Germans would be up for this match as I think they would like to make Miroslav Klose the top scorer in the tournament as well as in the history of the World Cup.

This match will be played in somehwat of a "friendly match" atmosphere and I would not be surprise if the coaches make some changes to let the substitutes have a feel of playing in the World Cup.

Uruguay will be without their inspirational Forlan while Suarez will be back (hopefully, not on goalkeeping duty ;-p). Germans will be at almost full strength once again.

I see the Germans winning this game by playing the same brand of football that has led them to the semi finals. Germany to win this 3-1 or 4-2 (I'm really hoping for a high scoring game as it will entertain the fans. I doubt the final will be an exciting ;-p)

Genting Highlands - The Flora and Fauna

Was up in Genting 2 weekends ago and decided to see the lesser known sights there. Instead of snapping shot from the theme park and etc, I decided to go towards Mother Nature.

These are some of the pictures I took:

Mushrooms at the Mushroom farm. THe Mushroom farm is located somewhere along the road down from Genting towards KL. The roads will lead you from the back of First World hotel to a roundabout, which will have the Mushroom farm signage.

Morning glory blooming as the sun rose and a yellow wildflower with an insect which looks like a bee on it.

Lily of a species which I Do not know

Some of the small insects that caught my eye when I was there. This insect is slightly smaller than half my thumb

I like this Bokeh shot a lot. One of the few times my camera has correctly focused on what I wanted.

Another pink wildflower located near a tortoise pond. You can see the tortoise in the background

Managed to catch a picture if this fly resting on a leaf. Moved in on it as steadily and slowly as I could and this picture was taken with my camera about 2 inches away from it.

Here is a shot of a bee collecting pollen.

More wildflowers! I actually enjoyed looking around the ground and the side of walkways to find these little flowers. And they really look beautiful up close =)

This is my nephew, Anderson. We brought him along to enjoy the cool weather. Of course, he wasn't interested in all the plants and mushrooms. This was what he longed for... Rides at the theme park!!

Anderson, Annie (my cousin/Anderson's mum), my mother, my sister and me.
I've been living with Annie and Anderson for the past month and they are great company every time I come back from work.

A panning shot which I absolutely love because I tried many times and this was the only usable picture. Pity its a bit overexposed though...

This is another panning shot I maged to get while he was on another ride.
ALl in all, it was a good 1 nights trip to Genting and Anderson managed to get his share of rides. For me, it was a chance for me to get myself better acquainted with my new camera.

Way Back Into Love

I remember watching this movie a few years back. I actually didn't like the film (just like I don't like any of Hugh Grant's films), but what I did like was the theme song for the movie, Music and Lyrics.

And yes, I like the lyrics of this song =)

I've been living with a shadow over my head
I've been sleeping with a cloud above my bed
I've been lonely for so long
Trapped in the past, I just can't seem to move on

I've been hiding all my hopes and dreams away
Just in case I ever need em again someday
I've been setting aside time
To clear a little space in the corners of my mind

All I want to do is find a way back into love
I can't make it through without a way back into love
Oh oh oh

I've been watching but the stars refuse to shine
I've been searching but I just don't see the signs
I know that it's out there
There's got to be something for my soul somewhere

I've been looking for someone to shed some light
Not somebody just to get me through the night

I could use some direction
And I'm open to your suggestions

All I want to do is find a way back into love
I can't make it through without a way back into love
And if I open my heart again
I guess I'm hoping you'll be there for me in the end
oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

There are moments when I don't know if it's real
Or if anybody feels the way I feel
I need inspiration
Not just another negotiation

All I want to do is find a way back into love
I can't make it through without a way back into love
And if I open my heart to you
I'm hoping you'll show me what to do
And if you help me to start again
You know that I'll be there for you in the end
oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

I Drive Myself Crazy

I was listening to my songs on my laptop while I was in the office earlier and this song came on. I didn't even know I had this song! Old songs like these just takes you by surprise and let's you reminisce about the times when the song was popular.

This N'SYNC was released at the height of the boy band era in 90s pop music. Back then you had BSB, Five, 911, Westlife and et al trying to capture a share of the music market.

Well this song does bring back memories to the days when I was in secondary school... Great days back then. Football, basketball, puberty and etc...

Lying in your arms
So close together
Didn't know just what I had
Now I toss and turn
Cause I'm without you

How I'm missing you so bad
Where was my head?
Where was my heart?
Now I cry alone in the dark

I lay awake
I drive myself crazy
Drive myself crazy
Thinking of you
Made a mistake
When I let you go baby
I drive myself crazy
Wanting you the way that I do

I was such a fool
I couldn't see it
Just how good you were to me

You confessed your love
Undying devotion
I confessed my need to be free
And now I'm left
With all this pain
I only got myself to blame

(chorus)

Why didn't I know
(How much I loved you baby)
Why couldn't show it
(If I had only told you)
When I had the chance
Oh I had the chance

(interlude)

(chorus)

FIFA World Cup 2010 : My Prediction Semi Finals #2

Well I'm glad that the Dutch went through to the finals last night. They are the better team last night, despite playing within themselves. They made it difficult for themselves when they conceded the last minute goal, which made the game looked closer than it really should.

I got the score wrong, but at least i got the winning margin correct ;-p

Now on to tonight's game:

Germany vs Spain

Enough about Paul the Octopus picking Spain over Germany. How could you call it orediction when the octopus doesn't know what it is choosing for? Itsnjust choosing food from 2 diff containers, for all it cares.

As a rational human, I shall try to assess this match in a better way than choosing my food.
Germany has reached the semi finals by playing a game which is totally un-Germany like. They have played with lots of pace and flair. Spain, on the other hand, has only played well enough to defeat whichever team that they face. They have not truly played the awesome attacking football we have come to know. That being said, they still are the best possession playing team in the World Cup.

I think Spain has the edge in terms of quality in Midfield, and Germany will have a tough time controlling / dictating play. But what I think Spain doesn't have at the moment is sharpness in front of the goal. Of course David Villa is on fire, but his strike partner is firing blanks. SO that is a bit worrying for them. I am one of the few people who think that Torres should still be starting the game tonight. Simply because he will still make runs, and keep defenders busy, while giving Villa the chance to roam. No team in the world would be silly enough to neglect Torres, on or off form. And I think Fabregas will do well as an impact substitute player.

In Germany, they have a team that can score from almost any player. All players have chipped in with goals. They have scored 4 goals on 3 occaccions already, all of which they have controlled the game. So I do forsee Germany being able to score a goal, but how many goals would depend on how much possession they get.

In terms of quality players, I think Spain would just shade the Germans. In terms of top level matches, the Germans lack experience. I would lean slightly towards the Spaniards. Its a very close call. 1-1 after extra time, with Spain to go thru on penalities. Or 3-2 to Spain.

This game is worthy of being the World Cup final. lets hope it lives up to expectations =)

FIFA World Cup 2010 : My Prediction Semi Finals #1

There is only a single game tonight and I think its gonna be a good match.

Uruguay vs Netherlands

Uruguay and Netherlands both have not conceded many goals in this tournament so far. And both teams have been pretty impressive.

Well by impressive i mean the Dutch have played well enough to beat whatever team that they faced so far in the competition. I do feel that the Dutch can play really really good football and overpower their opponents if they actually played to their true strengths. I'm not the only person who thinks so. I think they are an awesome attacking side. However, they seem to be putting focus on keeping their defence tidy at the same time. Maybe a little too much defensively. But hey, they've won every game so far, so Bert van Marwick has no reason to change his style. I'm looking forward to seeing Robben and Van Persie in full flight tonight.

Uruguay should have won the Ghana game easily but they made it difficult for themselves and almost lost the game if not for Suarez's heroics on the goal line. However, Suarez will be suspended for tonight's game and I don't really think his replacement will be as effective as he was. Diego Forlan will have to shoulder the huge burden and try to get something going for this Uruguayan team.

Looking at the overall team strength, I think the Dutch have a stronger squad. I would think that the Dutch will as usual, do just enough to win this game and not more. Win by a single goal margin. Netherlands to win this 1-0 or 2-1.

I Love Your Smile

Don't know how many people younger than me would remember the song. It was pretty big when I was in primary school. About the time when I was in Standard 1 or 2.

Of course, back then I didn't know what the lyrics were (we didnt have computers and internet then). Back then you could only get the lyrics from those "Galaxie" like magazines.

However, with the explosion as well as the implosion of the internet, we have tonnes of resources at our fingertips, literally. Today, i can view the music video of the song (Never seen it prior to posting this) and seen the full lyrics.

Yes, the human smile is one that can warms people's hearts. It doesnt cost us much to smile and yet it would have a positive effect on the recipient.
So smile for all its worth.

I love your smile =)
By Shanice

Sitting in my class, just drifting away
Staring into the windows of the world
I can't hear the teacher, his books don't call me at all
I don't see the bad boys tryin' to catch some play...

CHORUS :
'cause I love your smile
I love your smile

The clock at work says three
And I wanna be free
Free to scream, free to bathe, free to paint
My toes all day
My boss is lame you know, and so is the pay
I'm gonna put that new black mini on my charge anyway

(chorus)

Time came and showed me your direction
Now I know I'll never ever go back
Taught me that
I can be a better girl with love you give
You rock my world
You dig

I'm showin'
The life that I'm livin'
This is the life that I have
And it's given to you

Yeh'and it's true
La-d-da
Twinkley d
do you

Believe in a girl
like me
Shanice is the one
For you to be with

But when I'm caught
All alone
I start fessin'
It's from a state of depression
And the thunder clouds of doubt move in
I begin to wonder "Do you still love me?"
But after that
My whole world is beautiful

Time came and showed me your direction
Now I know I'll never ever go back
Taught me that
I can be a better girl with love you give
You rock my world
You dig

You are the only exception

This is a pretty new song (i think) on radio. And to think this song is sung by Paramore is surprising. Well it shouldn't be surprising since most rock bands usually have a famous ballad in their discography anyway.

KInda took a liking to this song and the lyrics seem relatable. ;-p
Emo songs like these are always relatable, hehehe.

When I was younger
I saw my daddy cry
And curse at the wind
He broke his own heart
And I watched
As he tried to reassemble it

And my momma swore that
She would never let herself forget
And that was the day that I promised
I'd never sing of love
If it does not exist

But darling,
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception

Maybe I know, somewhere
Deep in my soul
That love never lasts
And we've got to find other ways
To make it alone
Keep a straight face

And I've always lived like this
Keeping a comfortable, distance
And up until now
I had sworn to myself that I'm
Content with loneliness

Because none of it was ever worth the risk

Well, You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception

I've got a tight grip on reality
But I can't
Let go of what's in front of me here
I know you're leaving
In the morning, when you wake up
Leave me with some kind of proof it's not a dream

Ohh---

You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception

And I'm on my way to believing
Oh, And I'm on my way to believing

My Best Days Are Ahead of Me - Danny Gokey

Danny Gokey has always been the type of singer that inspires you.
From his American Idol days, where he a very sad story about his life. He has emerged from it and throughout his performances, he has given lots of people hope.

I've heard this song on radio recently and I thought, wow another soul inspiring song!
Reading the lyrics, I can bet most of us can understand wat he sings about. About life, and how we are always work-in-progress. The 1 thing we should always do is to look forward and believe that there are better things in store for us. Instead of feeling sad over what happened in the past, we should just look back and laugh at them, for we have learnt from them.

As usual, I always have plenty of thoughts running thru my head. I've decided to move a gear up in term of me exercising. To the point where I played futsal 4 times last week, went to gym as well as played badminton. Overboard? I try not to think so. I'd like to think that at 26, I'm at my prime and therefore, I should be able to do more with my body than anytime else.

Of course I would love for my mind to be as active, but as I already know, my mind is still not at its peak as it has not accumulated enough wisdom. And it is this lack of wisdom that has frustrated me so far. It has made me feel very disappointed with myself a few weeks back.

Just one day I thought I should not be kicking myself anymore, and instead of just sitting at home all the time, I shall get up and shape up. Yes I can say i've have been successful over the past month, increasing my level of fitness, but there is one thing I've still not been able to change. The thoughts that run through my head. And they are really beautiful thoughts indeed =)

So yeah, this song is dedicated to me and to those who think that i've gone mad with my workouts! And yes to those who feel that life will always bring you to a new low point everyday. Cheer up! If not I'll always be here to cheer you up =) And thats a guarantee, your best days are gonna be with me ;-p

Blowing out the candles
on another birthday cake
Old enough to look back and laugh at my mistakes
Young enough to look at the future and like what I see
My best days are ahead of me

Life hasn't always been a party
but mostly it's been good
There's only one or two things that I'd change if I could
I dont get lost in the past or get stuck in some sad memory yah
My best days are ahead of me

Age ain't nothing but a number
Sometimes I have to wonder
What does it really mean
But heeeey im still putting it together
I keep getting better
if I keep getting better
I can be whatever I want to be
My best days are ahead of me

Age ain't nothing but a number
Sometimes I have to wonder
What does it really mean
But heeeey im still putting it together
I keep getting better
if I keep getting better
I can be whatever I want to be

I've got sunsets to witness
dreams to dance with
beaches to walk on
and lovers to kiss
there's a whole lot of world out there
that I can't wait to see
My best days are ahead of me
My best days are ahead of me

FIFA World Cup 2010 : My Prediction Quarter Finals #2

Yesterday, Brazil were shocked by the Dutch when they were defeated 2-1. Looking at Brazil's 1st half performance, you would have thought they would go on to win this game 2 or 3 nil. However, their inability to make full use of their dominance cost them the game. The Dutch came into the 2nd half and played more aggressively, giving the Brazillians no time on the ball. And when they got a player sent off, the writing was already on the wall for them. Fair play to Arjen Robben, he was so good and irritating that almost 50% of the Dutch's free kick were resulted from him being fouled.

Uruguay qualified for the next round as expected, but only by the skin of their teeth; on penalties. Luis Suarez, in my opinion, was Uruguay's hero. He showed that he's not only adept at scoring goals, but also stopping goals (His save on the line with his hands would have made his country proud!). No doubt he got a red card and will be suspended from the next game, but he was the reason to why the Uruguayan even survived to make the penalty shootout.

Okay, enough about last night's actions. here are my predictions for tonight:

Argentina vs Germany

Another mouth watering clash between 2 in-form teams. Both teams are extremely talented, and both were not given much hope of winning the tournament. But they have shown that they are a forced to be reckoned with and its unfortunate that one of them has to go home tonight.

The Germans have played attractive attacking football (surprisingly) and Argentina has managed to gel together after going thru a bad qualification round. I think both sides are evenly matched and its hard to seperate these 2. One thing for sure, this game won't end in a 0-0 draw after extra time. I expect goals and I think Argentina will have a little edge over the inexperienced Germans. Argentina to win this 2-1 or 3-1 in normal play. If it goes to penalties, i still think the Argentinians have more experience to see it thru.

Spain vs Paraguay

This game, in my opinion, as well as many others, is the easiest to predict among all 4 quarter final clashes. Spain are in form and they controlled the game very well against the Portuguese, despite winning only 1-0. David Villa is in goal scoring form, and I expect Torres to break the duck in this match. The Paraguayans do not have enough quality, man for man against the Spanish, unfortunately.

It is difficult to imagine the Spanish losing this game, and if it does, it will be as big of a shock as their defeat to Switzerland was 2 weeks back.

Spain to win this by at least 2 goals. 2-0 or 3-1

Bleak future ahead for us and our future generations?

Reading this report by Bank of America Merril Lynch is a bit worrying.

Basically a short summary from the report would mean this: Malaysia’s relatively high population growth rate will see the country remain comparatively young over the next two decades but economic growth is not expected to keep pace with population expansion.

Of course most of us already know that current living costs here in Malaysia is already very high compared to most countries of similar GDP per capita. And this is despite us "enjoying" subsidies on many items. THings like Petrol, sugar, rice and etc are heavily subsidised by the government.

Looking at the simple statement that our salaries just does not adequately allow us to live a normal lifestyle. While the costs of food, housing and etc have risen significantly over the past 20 years, our salaries have not grown at the same pace. As a result, fresh grads today in actual fact, make less money (in real dollar terms) than their parents did.

So its no surprise to me that in 20 years time, the situation will be no different from now unless drastic action is taken by the government. In the end only ouir kids and grand children will suffer as we earn less and less, and possibly, be even considered poor by most other countries.

For too long now, we have marketed our country as a low cost country to do business. Its been the case for 25-30 years ago. That was when we really needed foreign investments in our country to boost our economy. Fast forward 20 years later, we are already becoming a strong economy desptie the crippling "Affirmative Action" policies by the government.

However, it has slowed our growth a lot more compared to other countries that didnt have these policies. A good example would be South Korea. They started industrialising at the same time of us but look at how big and strong their economy and companies are today. And this is despite them going through several huge recessions (esp in 1997) and mismanagement of the economy by the goverment.

They key for us to succeed and grow even faster is to remove all these crippling policies like quotas that have no specific benefit to the enitre nation (only to a certain ethnic group). Policies like these are no different from the Apartheid in South Africa except that in our situation, its making us disabled and uncompetitive compared to every1 else.

The sooner we lift all these restrictions, our local companies will be on the same level playing field as other international competitors. And I have no doubt that we have the entrepreneurial talent to compete against these big boys. Maybe one day we will see the likes of Genting, Maxis and et al becoming major household names like Samsung and Hyundai.

That way, our economy and our income can finally grow and catch up with our pace of growth. Just ask anyone, in most companies, the average rate of increment given is just about the same level as our inflation, if not lower. Our fixed deposit rates in banks are definitely lower than inflation rate. If this goes on, there can only be 1 way we are going. DOWN!

FIFA World Cup 2010 : My Prediction Quarter Finals

Its gonna be short and sweet. Dont have too much time before i head out to gym and catch the game thereafter.

Netherlands vs Brazil

Both sides with tonnes of attacking qualities but have so far held back as they were very disciplined in defence. I wont expect many goals out of this match but I feel BRazil are a better team all round compared to the Dutch.

Brazil to win this by the odd goal. 1-0 or 2-1 to BRazil. There might even be a chance for this game to go into extra time.

Uruguay vs Ghana

This game looks pretty straight forward to me. Although the rest of Africa will have thier hopes on Ghana, I feel that this is as good as they can get. They didn't really play much good football. Just barely enough to qualify. Whereas Uruguay are in red hot form. Scored plenty of goals with Forlan and Suarez chipping in and have conceded few goals.

Uruguay to win this by 2 goals. 2-0 or 3-1

Lets hope for a night of great football!!
