Though I'm not exactly a football pundit, and no1 will probably read any of this stuff, but I' dstill like to put up a few cents worth here. 3 matches on tonight. Malaysian / Singapore times : 7.30pm, 10pm and 2am.
Group B: South Korea vs Greece
South Korea and Greece both have a fully fit squad. In terms of rankings, it doesnt differ much either due to the fact that they dont have much international competitions to enter. However, I do have a feeling (yes its a gut feeling) that being Asia power houses, they are a team with more confidence than Greece. Greece didn't do well at all in the previous Euro Championships while South Korea usually dominate the Asian teams they play against. South Korea have also peformed better than the Greeks in previous friendly matches (I kinda base my predictions on their last few friendly matches)
All other things being equal, I would give the edge to Korea in this match. Narrow margin of victory maybe 1-0, 2-1 or a draw if the Greeks can hold off the Koreans.
Group B: Argentina vs Nigeria
On paper, this looks like an easy game for the Argies (one of the favourites for the title). I would agree, if Argentina play to their strength. No doubt that they have performed well in recent friendlies against weak opposition. Well Nigerians are strong as a collective unit, I think the Argies have too much in them and should be able to overpower their African opposition tonight.
My only reservation is with Argentina's coach, Maradona. While he maybe the 2nd most famous player in the world (behind Pele, some would disagree with me), I don't think he has enough experience to manage his country. Granted, if things do go well and he gets his tactics right; there is no doubt Argentina are strong favourites to reach the Final.
My prediction would be for Argentina to win by 2 goals. 3 goals, if Nigeria go all out attacking to try and salvage the game. With Messi, Milito and Tevez on form, there will definitely be goals in this team.
Group C: England vs United States
This should be a close match to follow as most of us Malaysians follow the Premier League closely. We know the England players very well and how they play. However, they have not done well in recent friendlies. United States are no better, but they have a very hardworking team. But still, man for man, the English should have enough advantage over the Americans.
But how well England play would depend on their formation. While Fabio Capello favours the 4-4-2 formation, I would love to see England play 4-5-1 if they truly want to make full use of Wayne Rooney. Wayne plays his best this year for Man Utd this year when they played 4-5-1.
With Gerrard in the support role (like how he plays with Torres in Liverpool), and Lampard in his usual attacking role for Chelsea (Chelsea plays in a 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 formation), I think England should do well.
England to win this game by 2 goals.
I will try to do this everyday, if possible and see if my predictions turn out right ;-p

FIFA World Cup 2010, South Africa: My favourites

Yes, tonight is the night the quest for the most prized trophy in world football begins. This is the stage where dreams are made. Kids playing football on the street dream of this their whole life.
The last edition of the World Cup was won by Italy (also my favourite team since i was in secondary school). Who will win the Jules Rimet trophy this time around?
My top two picks are Spain and Brazil.
Spain have been the form team ever since they won Euro 2008. And I see that trend continuing. The team is roughly about the same as the one that won Euro 2008. They play with the same style and have the same manager. THey have the teamwork and understanding. They have also performed well in recent friendlies.
Brazil is my 2nd choice to win, because, well, they are Brazil. However, this brazil team isn't like previous Brazillian teams. This team wins it ugly, and if you are lucky, sometimes beautifully. Coached by Dunga, a world cup winning captain himself; the team seems to be moulded in the same way he played (He was a defensive midfielder). They've got a good team all round and Brazillian players always seem to be able to work well together eventhough most of them are based in different nations.
My 3rd choice, however, would be the Dutch. They've been playing really well and have some really good players with the squad this time around. With Bert van marwick as coach I think the team is a cohesive unit. They qualified in style and in recent friendlies, played with style as well.
However, all my top 3 picks play on the same side of the draw. Which would mean that there wont be a dream final for me of Brazil vs Spain. But what it means is that the team that wins the semi finals on this side of the draw will be my favourtie to take the title.
What's your pick?

You are not just another person
Neither am I.
None of us are "just another person".
We are also never every1's best friend and neither are we every1's enemy. In fact, even criminals have friends and family who love and care about them. We are who we are. But there are also time we become the person we are in different situations. Not all criminals have that bad ass attitude 24/7. Sometimes its just their way of making a living. Sometimes it is how they perceive the way they should lead their life (twisted or evil as they may be).
But I'm not here to talk about criminal psychology. Rather the thing that is at the top of my mind is how people's behaviour or needs/wants are triggered when they meet different people.
Lets just say in a typical social circle that we have (maybe big or small doesnt matter), we have normal acquaintaces, friends, close friends / best friends as well as our boyfriend and girlfriends. When we meet our acquaintances or friends, we have something in common which we agree upon or they offer something to us that allows us to enjoy their company. And that is how you see them, as friends. Some may mean nothing more to you than others.
Next you have very close friends, friends that you share a lot more in common with. You even share your life stories with them, your ups and downs and everything else. However, there are still certain wants and situations that they may dream of, which you do not fulfill their criteria. As much as they are great in all sorts of ways, there is just still something that doesnt ignite that spark.
I guess that spark is the spark where men suddenly realise its the end of their bachelorhood. When they meet some1 who will make them all mushy and yes, that feeling that they are ready for a lifelong commitment (of course, some nvr have that feeling ;-p). For women, maybe its the realisation that their childhood dream of a dream wedding will come true. Or the fact that they have found the person who just has "The One" factor.
The spark is never apparent when you are with your friends nor close friends. Some may always be on the lookout for this spark (including yours truly) while some may have them buried deep inside.
Watching 500 Days of Summer (watched it a couple of times already) allowed me to understand this "spark" factor better. In this movie, A is a guy who thinks he found the girl of his life when he meets B, a charming pretty girl. They hit it off right away, and he feels like she has the spark. He feels like she's the girl that he has been waiting for all his life.
However, through the ups and downs of their time together, it seems that to B, A doesnt have that spark, no matter how charming he was. A always tried his best to show her that he was "the one" for her cause in his eyes, he has found the spark in her. In the end thru much heartbreak, they broke off with B telling A that she was never the marryking kind.
Fast forward a few years later, their paths crossed, and while A is still searching for "the one", B has gotten married. A asked B how could she marry another guy when she told him that she wasnt the marrying kind. B mentioned that in fact, she had found her "spark" when she bumped into her current husband. B told A that A was right all along. She would get married someday, but she just didnt see it in him.
****
I guess this is true in real life. Sometimes things dont work out and you always wonder why or how it went wrong. Sometimes, its 2 really great persons who got together but somehow, things never quite worked out. While it is always easy to point fingers, sometimes it could just be that either 1 of them doesnt see the "spark" in the other. Sometimes we may try too hard, in the end trying to shift blames to every1. YOu may feel that everything felt so right, so how can it ever be wrong? However, only you feel that way.
The spark. THat feeling that u seem to know you've found the right person. Its a very good feeling to have, but remember that it is a 2 way relationship. if the other party doesnt see the spark in you, no matter how much you want it, it won't work out. And without doubt, the hurt that comes with it, is of course, very painful.
Soemtimes, it makes one wonder if they should ever try and find that spark again, for the happiness it brings is immense. However, they are those who shy away for fear of being hurt again.
Oh well, its been a very long post. Not sure if many read this far... hehehe.
But its great that i've penned this, cause this topic has been in my head for a few days now.

Its not about...
... the wedding, its who you wed.
its not about whats the perfrect date, its who you date.
its not about the ideal characteristics, its the person.
its not about the ideal honeymoon spot, its the person.
its not the perfect lifestyle, its the person.
*****
It's strange how sometimes we get to pre-occupied with how our dream life would be like. We would make a lot of choices in this life based on the ideals or rules we have set for ourselves. I guess I'm guilty on that charge. I've always been chasing a dream. But dreams are soemthing u cannot grasp with your hands. But having a hand to hold, now thats something real you can feel.
I've always had this ideal lifestyle that I would like in the future. With my future wife, and family and etc. Then I'd filter out the people I meet based on whether i think they'd fit into my future scenarios. We shouldnt be trying to fit a person into the picture.
In fact, I guess what we all could use is just the right person. For the right person would make all those dream scenarios we have seem unimportant.
Its not about the dream wedding. Dream wedding is only temporary.
Its about the dream girl. The girl that makes everyday seem like a dream. A dream come true.

Elvis Presley - Can't Help Falling in Love
I have this CD of my favourite Elvis' hits playing in my car now. When this song is played, the following scene pops into my head all the time. I always get a little wry smile thinking about it. So cliched.
*******************
Man stands in front of the mirror in his room. His heart beats a thousand times per second. His mind is going thru a thousand situations a second. His palms start to become sweaty.
How should he say it? Is this the right time to say it? What would be her reaction? How will things work out? What if he doesn't say it? Will he rue this missed the opportunity in the future?
He decides, "Enough of thinking and wondering! I must take things into my own hands. Make it mine (ala Jason Mraz's song ;-p). He leaves his place.
He arrives at her place. Knocks on the door confident, pumped up. From the other side of the door, he hears her faint voice. Asks him to wait awhile. Its those few seconds, suddenly his heart rate shoots up the roof.
The door opens. There she is, dressed casually; the most beautiful woman he has seen. She smiles at him, and asks him, "Whats up?"
He stands there, looking like a deer caught in headlights. His mind empty, he's at a loss for words. His mouth opens, and the 1st thing he says is "Errr..."
"I think I left something with you earlier didn't I? Sorry to trouble you at this time of night."
She smiles and asks him to wait while she gets his thing and passes it back to him. "Is that all?"
"Yeah", he says. "Thanks and get a good night's rest."
She bids him a goodnight and farewell, and proceeds to close the door.
He stands there, feeling dumb. Kicking himself "What the heck is wrong with you??" he screams in his head. "OK, lets try this again". He runs through the imaginary situation in his head again. He practices what he wants to say, in front of her door. Satisfied with the practice, he thinks to himself, "Lets do it for real now. No turning back. If she's the 1 you want, she should know about it. It will be selfish of you not to let her know."
He lifts his hand up, to knock the door. He gets more and more nervous, then knocks on the door, calls out her name (His voice, was almost choked as he feels like the words are balled up at his throat. Calling out her name though, was just about as beautiful as he could imagine it in his head).
She opens the door and asks, "Anything?"
There he stands. Just a guy, who likes a girl. So simple, yet for a person who can speak so comfortably with her all the time, he's loss for words. He goes thru the imaginary practice session he had in his head again.
"Is it okay if I come awhile? It's late and we've had a long day out, so I won't take too much of your time."
"Sure thing. Why do you have to look so serious lah? Come in lah"
He steps inside and she closes the door behind her.
*********************
Wise men say only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you
Shall I stay
Would it be a sin
If I can't help falling in love with you
Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can't help falling in love with you
Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can't help falling in love with you

Me
the definition of Me
Main Entry: me
Pronunciation: \ˈmē\
Function: pronoun
Definition:
1. is a simple guy, looking for his place in this wonderful world.
2. doesn't want much in his life. Infinite/obscene amounts money is always a bonus but not a requirement.
3. would love to be very rich, open my own sport complex for my local community and sponsor budding atheletes. Would also love to have my own financial planning practice where I can help the average Joe realise their financial goals (something akin to what AKPK is doing but on a more modest scale).
4. would love to be happily married to a woman I consider my best friend, if our paths do ever cross. Nothing better than having a best friend with you for the rest of your life =)
5. always wanted to play football professionally since I was a kid, but the lack of ability limited my opportunities. Now I just wished my parents sent me to golf school when I was young.
6. is never keen on "trying out" relationships. Love cannot be tried out. I cannot possibly love so many ppl in my life. Its strange how life makes things so contradictory.
7. is my favourite number, worn by the Man Utd great, Eric Cantona. Also my birthdate.
8. always loves to be the solution provider. If you have a need/ need help/ have a request, I will try my best to help you out with it. My motto: Don't worry, leave it to me and I'll take care of everything.
9. In hindsight, I realised I can't do this for every1 I know. In the end, I can't help that many people and I've also learnt that I cannot expect anything in return (much as I wish to think that in this world, if you do something good, it will come back to you).
10. is always very optimistic and forward thinking. But sometimes (most of the time), I get ahead of myself and start dreaming. In the end, I end up very disappointed if things don't work out.
11. always wondered if love is really important in a long term relationship/marriage. I only know that it is very important in the start, but in the end, its always a lot of other things needed to keep it going. Which makes me wonder, it a lot of other things are important in the long run, shouldn't we look for those in a person rather than love?
12. always thinks too much. Over-analysing makes me neurotic and think of things that will only upset me further.
13. is working to make a living, hopefully a better than average living ;-)
14. always has problems opening up to people he is close to. There are however, a few people whom he has that connection with, and its not easy to find. I guess thats what we crave for in life. To find that special connection.
15. has always wished it was easier finding some1 to settle down with. Life nowadays has made it difficult with so many requirements. In the earlier days, you would just get into an arranged marriage and that would be it. Problem solved. Just as long as you 2 understand that you both must stay dedicated to each other, then it's easy
:-p
16. All I want is to just go home everyday to the person I would love to spend the rest of my life with, cuddle up at home for movies on weekends, or just take an impromptu drive out on a sunny day.

But anyhow, I will still stand by you, help you back on your feet. Thats my promise. I still wished I hadn't opened my mouth because I knew the timing was wrong but in the end, i think my selfish self wanted you sooner rather than later. I'm sorry if from now onwards you are less receptive towards me. I somehow now regret spilling out my feelings too soon.
20. and your smile. I look at the pictures with your smile in it, and I can honestly say, it could bring me to tears. For its one of the most beatiful sights I have ever laid my eyes on. And I still remember which day it was when I saw that smile. And suddenly, it struck me. That smile. Your smile. You =)
