Lost / Torn / Undecided

Thoughts of these began to crop up the day after my accident.

Thoughts that led me to think, is this my year? Maybe not based on the event leading to the accident.

But the days after it, especially Sunday, made me wonder. What the hell is wrong with me?? I feel like I'm stuck at a crossroad even though decisions have been made which i felt were in the best of my interests.

But these few day, I've felt like I behaved in a way thats been wayward. Sometimes behaving in the wrong manner. Which leads me to believe that I don't know what I want anymore. At this point in life, I see my finish line, but I don't know if the path I'm currently at leads me to the desired finish line.

Of course we never do get things the way we want it or the way we expect to get it. Maybe I thought life would make it easier for me, in certain aspects at least. But I'm not giving up. I'll continue to work hard in all aspects of my life at this point in time.

I just wish there is a sign to say I'm going the right direction... Please show me a sign!

Maybe, just maybe, when i was younger, I didnt need signs. The world is my oyster. I just barged my way through to announce my arrival. But today, 4 years on, I dont know. And I'm worried.

What am I worried about?

I'm worried I'm not where I am supposed to be today. I worry that I may fail. I worry I may disappoint the people around me. I worry that I'm not good enough for the people around me. Worry I dont live up to my own expectations.

Worry. Expectations. Decisions. Insecurity.

Curling (Winter Olympics)

I don't know if there are any of you that catches the Winter Olympics in Vancouver happening right now, but i did catch some highlights of it.

My favourite sport so far has to be Curling.

This is how curling looks like. Its kinda like lawn bowls, but on ice. And the best thing is that features 2 sweepers who vigoroulsy wipe the ice surface to ensure the stones slide smoothly towards the target.

Below is a short description of the game from Wikipedia:

*******************************

Curling is a team Olympic sport in which stones are slid across a sheet of carefully prepared ice towards a target area. It is related to lawn bowling, boule and shuffleboard.

Two teams of four players take turns sliding heavy, polished blue hone granite stones[1] across the ice towards the house (a circular target marked on the ice). The purpose is to complete each end (delivery of eight or ten stones [depending on recreational or competitive play] for each team) with the team's stones closer to the centre of the house than the other team's stones. Two sweepers with brooms or brushes accompany each stone and use stopwatches and their best judgment, along with direction from their teammates, to help direct the stones to their resting place, but without touching the stones.

***************************

The current champions Is Actually Canada but, China is catching up really fast and have stunned several big European teams in the round robin matches so far.

Do catch this on TV if you can!

Sheryl Crow: If it makes you happy & My favorite mistake

Was watching American Idol and I heard one of the contestants sing a very good version of Sheryl Crow's "If it makes you happy". Good stuff. Decided to Youtube the video for the song and another Sheryl Crow fave of mine,"My favorite mistake". Oh btw, the picture of the girl below is not Sheryl crow, but rather a model / actress called Angelababy (yes thats her fame name ;-p)

If it makes you happy

I've been long, a long way from here
Put on a poncho, played for mosquitos,
And drank til I was thirsty again
We went searching through thrift store jungles
Found Geronimo's rifle, Marilyn's shampoo
And Benny Goodman's corset and pen

Well, o.k. I made this up
I promised you I'd never give up

[Chorus]
If it makes you happy
It can't be that bad
If it makes you happy
Then why the hell are you so sad

You get down, real low down
You listen to Coltrane, derail your own train
Well who hasn't been there before?
I come round, around the hard way
Bring you comics in bed, scrape the mold off the bread
And serve you french toast again

Well, o.k. I still get stoned
I'm not the kind of girl you'd take home

[Chorus]

We've been far, far away from here
Put on a poncho, played for mosquitos
And everywhere in between
Well, o.k. we get along
So what if right now everything's wrong?

[Chorus]

My Favorite Mistake

I woke up and called this morning
The tone of your voice was a warning
That you don't care for me anymore

I made up the bed we sleep in
I looked at the clock when you creep in
It's 6 a.m. and I'm alone

[Chorus:]
Did you know when you go
It's the perfect ending
To the bad day I was just beginning
When you go all I know is
You're my favorite mistake

Your friends are sorry for me
They watch you pretend to adore me
But I'm no fool to this game

Now here comes your secret lover
She'd be unlike any other
Until your guilt goes up in flames

[Chorus:]
Did you know when you go
It's the perfect ending
To the bad day I'd gotten used to spending
When you go all I know is
You're my favorite mistake

You're my favorite mistake

Well maybe nothin' lasts forever
Even when you stay together
I don't need forever after
It's your laughter won't let me go
So I'm holding on this way

Did you know, could you tell
You were the only one
That I ever loved
Now everything's so wrong

Did you see me walking by?
Did it ever make you cry?

You're my favorite mistake
You're my favorite mistake
You're my favorite mistake

The Year of the Tiger Starts

The Year of the Tiger has started pretty erratically for me. Like the Tiger's stealth, sometimes it was quiet to the point that I enjoy it. The lack of relatives visitng this year contributed hugely to the quietness. I think Attendences have dropped by 80-90% and thus my grandparents place was very very serene and peaceful. However, it lacked the festive cheer that we usually have when 4 generations descend upon my grandparent's home in Triang, Pahang.

I enjoyed the solitude it provided me, just like the Tiger's singular, solitary nature. It gives me the time to think, reflect, as well as to enjoy the beautiful scenery without the rush of CNY festivities

Yet, there are times that, my life roars into action unexpectedly, just like how a tiger stalks its prey before pouncing on it. Just like how my car pounced into the road divider early this morning and attempted to climb the tree. The result? The tree lost, and so did my car...

I have some pictures of my CNY so far. What it lacks is more time with friends, which i rarely have during CNY. But this CNY i'm back earlier than usual but I'm still struggling to fill my calender to visit my friends. I do hope to be able to arrange something last minute with them. I really miss all my friends esp during the CNY period. Esp. Those from SSG, SMK CP, AEC, Monash, OSK, and also Nielsen (you guys know who you are :-).

*The Skies were filled with stars in Triang, with the lack of light pollution*

*Fireworks from the rooftop in Triang as well as our Reunion spread, for only 5 ppl*

*The old Gate design in Triang and my nieces learning to ride the bicycle the right way in Melaka*
*Satellite dishes in B&W. My sister and my cousin AO going old skool*
*This looks like a picutre taken in the 1940s*
My accident pictures are on my facebook, and I'm too lazy to upload them here ;-p
But I'm safe and sound, with minor scratch but a big dent on my car, wallet and ego.
Anyways, I hope to see all of you friends and readers soon!!

Valentine's Day : The Movie

Managed to catch this star studded movie! And what made it even more star studded was that I even saw Marion Caunter, a local TV host, in the same cinema as well!

I liked the movie although some may say it really lacked direction as well as plot. But for me, i think its a short story of various people's lives on Valentines Day and how it unfold for them.I think every did quite well, even Taylor Swift. Although its her first time on the big screen, she can improve. But yes, I like the movie because it was light, but also the emotional bits tugged my heart strings.

My rating for the movie: 7/10 :-)

*******

Well, this year's valentines day falls on the 1st day of Chinese New year. Hence I thinkmost florists and restaurants will not be able to cash in on this day. Hey, even I dont have to spend a single cent this year (LOL!!) But of course, if i had a choice, i wouldn't be grumbling if I had to spend it on a special some1 this year.

Some people argue that Ppl should not only celebrate this 1 day, but should be doing it for 365 days a year. However, in my opinion, of course a person is expected to shower love to their loved ones 365 days a year. But on special days like Birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine's you do something out of the ordinary. And days like these break the monotony of a couple's life together.

And of course, there are some who argue its over commercialised, but which festive period in the world isn't commercialised? That doesn't mean we should stop celebrating it right??

Just my few cents worth.

In a few day time we will be celebrating Chinese New year as well as Valentine's (although Valentine's isnt an official holiday). Whatever it is, I hope all you readers celebrate this special days with the people you love and cherish.

You just haven't met ME yet!

THis is a very catchy song from Michael Buble; switched 2 words from the title, hehehe. My fave would still be Home, but this is good stuff especially when I'm stuck in traffic (which is quite often nowadays). Keeps me positive for the rest of the day, not knowing who I'm gonna make happy today :-)

Well, if your not having a good day, don't release the frustration by lashing out.You just haven't met me yet ;-p
I'll make you have a good day, or night!

Lyrics

I'm Not Surprised
Not Everything Lasts
Have Broken My Heart So Many Times,
I Stopped Keepin Track.
Talk Myself In
I Talk Myself Out
I Get All Worked Up
Then I Let Myself Down.

I Tried So Very Hard Not To Lose It
I Came Up With A Million Excuses
I Thought I Thought Of Every Possibility

And I Now Someday That It'll All Turn Out
You'll Make Me Work So We Can Work To Work It Out
And I Promise You Kid That I'll Give So Much More Than I Get
I Just Haven't Met You Yet

Mmmmm ....

I Might Have To Wait
I'll Never Give Up
I Guess It's Half Time
And The Other Half's Luck
Wherever You Are
Whenever It's Right
You Come Out Of Nowhere And Into My Life

And I Know That We Can Be So Amazing
And Baby Your Love Is Gonna Change Me
And Now I Can See Every Possibility

Hmmmmm ......

And Somehow I Know That Will All Turn Out
And You'll Make Me Work So We Can Work To Work It Out
And I Promise You Kid I'll Give So Much More Than I Get
I Just Haven't Met You Yet

They Say All's Fair
And In Love And War
But I Won't Need To Fight It
We'll Get It By It ??
To Be United

And I Know That We Can Be So Amazing
And Being In Your Life Is Gonna Change Me
And Now I Can See Every Single Possibility

Hmmm .....

And Someday I Know It'll All Turn Out
And I'll Work To Work It Out
Promise You Kid I'll Give More Than I Get
Than I Get Than I Get han I Get

Oh You Know It Will All Turn Out
And You'll Make Me Work So We Can Work To Work It Out
And I Promise You Kid To Give So Much More Than I Get
Yeah I Just Haven't Met You Yet

I Just Haven't Met You Yet
Oh Promise You Kid
To Give So Much More Than I Get

I Said Love Love Love Love Love Love Love .....
You Just Haven't Met Me Yet
Love Love Love .....
You Just Haven't Met Me Yet

Houston, We've got a problem

Today, once again, I suffered from microsleep as I was driving home from work. It usually happens to me during the evening drive home. If i were to put a percentage to it, most of the occurrences of microsleep, about 70% happen in the evening (about 6-7pm ish); 25% late at night; and about 5% in the mornings.

It doesn't happen everytime, but its getting more and more often especially during the drive home from work. And the strange thing is that it usually happens then. If i work late till about 8-9pm, I dont suffer from microsleep at all. If I go gym, or go for my games of badminton and futsal after work, i dont have that effect at all.

I do feel that it is dangerous for it to happen especially since I'm almost always driving. But today's case i think was the worst I had encountered so far. Just as I was about to enter into Sg. Long, the access road leading to it (about 3km long), was jammed. This was due to numerous traffic light and pasar malam. Lo and behold, when i was stuck in the traffic, I actually closed my eyes. And when I opened my eyes, there was a huge gap between me and the car in front!! It was obvious I had microslept. It happened a few more time as we slowly moved according to the traffic light. I guess i was lucky i was stuck in the middle of the junction, or else God knows what will happen to me. I dont know if there is a cure for this, but playing music loudly didnt work for me...

Well below is what I've taken from Wikipedia about Microsleep:

'A microsleep is an episode of sleep which may last for a fraction of a second or up to thirty seconds.[1] Often, it is the result of sleep deprivation, mental fatigue, sleep apnea, hypoxia, narcolepsy, or hypersomnia. Microsleeps can occur at any time, typically without significant warning.

Microsleeps (or microsleep episodes) become extremely dangerous when occurring during situations which demand continual alertness, such as driving a motor vehicle or working with heavy machinery. People who experience microsleeps usually remain unaware of them, instead believing themselves to have been awake the whole time or to have temporarily lost focus.

One example is called "gap driving": from the perspective of the driver, he drives a car, and then suddenly realizes that several seconds have passed by unnoticed. It is not obvious to the driver that he was asleep during those missing seconds, although this is in fact what happened. The sleeping driver is at very high risk for having an accident during a microsleep episode.

Many accidents and catastrophies have resulted from microsleep episodes in these circumstances.[2] For example, a microsleep episode is claimed to have been one factor contributing to the Waterfall train disaster in 2003; the driver had a heart attack and the guard who should have reacted to the train's increasing speed is said by his defender to have microslept.

There is little agreement on how best to identify microsleep episodes. Some experts define microsleep according to behavioral criteria (head nods, drooping eyelids, etc.), while others rely on EEG markers.
