Finally, 2 dozen years old and 9 days

It was one heck of a roller coaster fortnight for me. Things went slightly downhill for me just a day before my birthday and I was thinking, man, i might as well just not worry about it anymore and not get disappointed by anymore bad news. But the thing is, it was a great birthday weekend for me. Well, almost perfect (damn, we humans are never satisfied right?). but then again, i cant say that what i wanted was over the top by any means.

Moving on now, had a quiet but hectic saturday rushing to finish all my laundry so i can enjoy sunday and monday. but of course, mother nature didnt really help, not much sunlight at all, but nevertheless, i still managed to get the job done.

Spent Sunday lunch with my ex-unimates and my guest of honour, JJJ at Coliseum Cafe in middle of town. Was a bit disappointed with the quality of the food as i think they have deteriorated since the last time i visited the place.

We then went on a day long date, which began with going to the Aquaria (since she's nvr been there before). JJJ was behaving like a little girl whose was very excited, hehehe. Later, we shopped a bit around KLCC before heading for dinner in Bangsar. The place, Tea For 2, is one of our favourite places as they served great food and provided good service. The place was also very peaceful and quiet, just perfect for a romantic dinner.

Then we went to catch a movie (thanks to the free movie tickets my company gave me as a birthday gift) at the mall near my place. The movie, Twilight, was her choice as she has been dying to see it for some time already. JJJ thoroughly enjoyed the movie, but howeverm i felt the movie could do better. Who cares! as long as she had a great time, so did i!! Afterthe movie, we were both dead tired for the day. Called it a night,

The next day, JJJ and I headed to the Curve to have brunch with a couple of ex-colleagues. On the way there, we picked up IS at KL Central. Met up with KNO, EC, M, EY(and his gf, N), CY, her hubby GK and her new born baby, DK (who was the star of the afternoon). Ate, drank and chatted merrily for about 4 hours before JJJ and I headed for another movie, Madagascar 2 at Cineleisure. The movie was funny and much better compared to Twilight, and the couple seats were very comfortable. After that, we decided to have dinner at Dragon-I. JJJ then dropped me off in klang where i met up with my mum and sis, who were there visiting my aunt Helen. After visiting my aunt, we headed back home.

Overall, i was happy with the way that weekend ended. I'm pleased that JJJ went home happy (can't even remember when the last time she went home unhappy after our date) and i was happy everything turned out alright. But of course, It will cost me bomb by the time my credit card bill comes at the end of the month. I bought many things, and themost expensive item i spent on was a new mattress for myself. I told myself i deserved to sleep on a comfy bed and so i blew a huge wad of cash on it. Plus all the meals and our R&R stops. Sigh... happiness has a price i guess...

Well, the week after my birthdayw as another roller coaster. Started on a high and went downhill after that. And since its the monsoon season, the weather has been pretty bad, and together with cheaper petrol, that meant worse jams! ARGH!!! And yes, even doing simples chores like laundry will take forever to dry. Which makes me very sad, because during times like these, i feel that sometimes even mother nature is against me. She wont even let me be happy in completing a single task. Oh well, this week is a new week, and i do hope that it gets better and better. Times are tough, but it isn't only affecting me. It affects other people as well. I cant be selfish and expect ppl to pity me when times are tough on me. People dont owe me anything, so yeah i cant demand their attention either.

But yeah, i'm hoping the skies will clear up and show me a sunny day soon. Or at least a star filled sky...

Boodyboy, out!!!

10 things I hate about you

Well, its been an interesting week since my birthday. Sorry as i didnt continue to update on my China Trip as there are lots more of entries to go but i'm too lazy to update them. But as i was thinking of the movies I liked to watch, this movie came to my mind. And the thing i liked about the movie was the poem in the movie, aptly titled, 10 things i hate about you.

So now here is my version of it (but i'd like to thank the scriptwriters who came up with this nice poem). however, its not so different as i feel that the words used are actually quite reflective of what words I can only conjure up. Yes, sorry, if i'm not creative enough (well at least not in poetry).

10 Things I Hate About You

I hate the the time it takes you to put on your make-up,
and the time it takes to blow your hair,

I hate the way you drive your car,
I hate the way you stare,

I hate your big dangly ear rings,
and the way you always dress,

I hate you so much because you make me cry,
it makes me cry wanting a recess,

I hate the way you are always right,
and i hate it when you lie,

i hate it when you make me laugh,
and even more when you make me cry,

I hate it when I'm alone,
and you're not by my side,

But mostly, I hate the way I dont hate you,
Not even close,
not even a little bit,
Not at all.

Boodyboy, out!!!
(but not down ;-p)

Boody's Travelogue. China Day 3

Stupid phone wake up call woke me up again. This time at 6.3oam. Trudged myself to the bathroom to get ready. After breakfast we went to the Nanchang Ceramic Cultural centre. There, we got to see how the porceline articles were made, the old fashioned method. At 9.30 we went on a 3 hour bus ride to Lu Shan(Mount Lu). We reached the Lu Shan Geopark (something like the Langkawi Geopark) at about almost 1pm. The entry fee for the geopark is definitely not cheap. The cost per person is about 120 yuan. We had lunch, which was unsurprisingly, unspectacular again.

The temperature here ranges from -2 in the night to 8 in the afternoon. All i can say is that, even in the afternoon i was freaking cold. And i wore 3 layers of clothing excluding my jacket. After lunch we headed to some paronamic spot to take pictures and then visited some old colonial houses. it seems that foreigners once used this place as a retreat. soon after they were ousted, it became a holiday spot among the Communist leaders. It was here that i bought a fan that has a poetry written in it. and in the poetry it contained my name in chinese. Very creative indeed. It was also here we got a chance to pose for pictures wearing Communist clothing.

We then headed to the hotel to check in before proceeding for dinner. After dinner, all of us rushed back to our rooms to take a shower as they told us that there will only be hot water from 6 to 10pm only. after dinner we decided to out out into town despite it being very very cold and it was drizzling. But since we only had 1 night to stay there, we might as well go and walk around. God knows when we will return to this place again. The town was peaceful, quiet and the streets were very safe. The things that we bought here were pretty cheap, despite it being a tourist area.

The gardens here are very nicely lighted up and as usual, the streets were clean. By the time we got back to our rooms it was about 10.30pm. Damn cold nite it was, but I was glad i wnet out to see this beautiful town. TOugh day ahead as we will be doing some serious hiking towards the top of mount Lu tomoro.

Boody's Travelogue. China day 2

*RRRIIIIINNNGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!* THe phone rang, waking me up from my sleep. Picked up the call, wondering who the hell would call at such an ungodly hour. Found out that it was the wake up call. Looked out of the window and the sun was up already. Glanced at my watch, only to realise it was only 6.30am.

Went down for breakfast then we checked out of the hotel. THe 1st stop in Nanchang is TengWang Pavillion. It s a veryold building which used to be one of the many emperor's holiday homes whenever he left the capital. It's located right beside the river and the place was well maintained. We then saw some sort of traditional performances in the pavillion itself but the choreography was very poor. We left before the performances ended to take pictures instead.

Nanchang also has one of the biggest ferris wheel in the world. I'm not sur ehow big it is, but this 1 looks bigger than the 1 we have over here. It was unfortunate that it wasn't open so early. We also had a chance to see one of Nanchang's famous exports, which is the kitchen knife. The prices were also sky high, but the real price you pay depends on your bargaining skills.

We then went to the golden thread court, which housed a pagoda and a memorial for a few famous scholars. Lunch was just within walking distance of the court, and again, the food wasn;t really good. But since its winter and all of us needed energy, we still ate lots of rice.

THen it was time for a long bus ride. Our next destination is the city of Jingdezhen, with a population of 6 million. Jingdezhen is most famous for its porceline products. We knew we arrived when we saw lamp posts made of Porceline!! We had sometime to shop for porceline products when we arrived. Although some of the things there were cheap, we didnt dare to buy the big and heavy stuff as we still had mny more days to go on this tour. All the travelling would increase the risk of the fragile goods to be broken. But we did but a set of 10 bowls which looked very pretty.

We then checked in to the hotel and had dinner. As usual dinner was poor, sigh... Later at about 7, we roamed the streets of Jingdezhen. Temperature at night was about 8 degrees Celcius. Shit cold!!! But we trudged on and when we saw neon lights, we were in a small shopping haven. The designs on the winterwear here looked like they came straight outof MIlan (but even those italain brands have their clothing made in China anyway). There were a lot of fashionable ppl on the streets. CLothing was cheap, by malaysian standrads. We bought some long johns and some winter wear as we were going to Lu Shan (Mount Lu) the next day. We were told that Lu SHan will be very very cold. I also managed to grab a KFC burger here. First of all, it wasn't fried. It was grilled chicken burgerwith some "new orleans" sauce. it actually tasted quite good.

After our quck pit stop at KFC to fill up my tummy, we headed back to the hotel, which was i think about 2km away (that was how far we walked in the cold weather). Dead tired from all the walking, we all knocked out quie early.

Boody's Travelogue. China Day 1

Yes, itsbeen almost another month since my last post. Was kinda busy with work and working out after that. That made me tired enough to just go home and straight to sleep soon after.

Well anyways, as the title of this post mentions, I went back to mainland China for the last 10 days of November. Here I shall recount what happened on Day 1.Pictures will be up on Facebook as soon as I'm done going editing and resizing them (almost 2,000 pics snapped!!!).

Ok. So after working late and packing the final pieces of clothing to be brought, i slept at about 2am. Woke up at 5.20am to take a quick shower and had a few bites of bread before heading to the airport. Our flight was 9am so we had to be there by about at least 7am. Reached theresafely with many bags to carry (i had to help carry my mum'sbag since she has lots of things to carry (u know women lar..., her bag was so full she had to "tumpang" some stuff in my bag as well). My luggage consisted of my backpack and a mid sized trolley bag. Brought my Ricoh camera (with its full gear: 3x 1Gb memory cards, spare batt, charger) along as well despite my sis bringing the newly bought Sony @300 (2x 4gb card, spare batt, zoom lens kit and charger) along.

Plane left on schedule and it took about 4 hours plus to reach Xiamen (SOuth west of CHina, Facing the straights of Taiwan. We flew by MAS on a Thursday, so there were plenty of empty seats in Economy. One passenger had the whole middle row to himself, so he slept across all 4 seats after lifting up the armrest. LOL!! Food served wasn't too bad, but I remember MAS serving better food. oh well, it comes with cost cutting i guess.

Watched Journey to the Centre of the Earth to kill timeas well as snapped pictures on the plane. On the flight was my family of4, my 5th aunt (GK), my last aunt(BK) and her daughter/ my cousin (HH).

Arrived at 2pm and once we got our stuff and cleared customs, wemet u with the tour co-ordinator. We had a connecting flight from Xiamen, Fujian Province to Nanchang, Jiangxi Province (more towards Central China) at 4.00pm. Here we joined up with the rest of the tour group (whom had arrived a day earlier and stayed one night in Xiamen). So in total there were 44 ppl on this tour(yes i was surprised at the huge amount of ppl).

It was here at the airport that they took away my Shokubutsu body shampoo!! I had forgotten that there was a bottle of it in my backpack and since i did not check it in, it was confiscated. Doh!!! silly me...

We flew on Xiamen Airlines, using their newly refurbished Boeing 777 (i think). THe seat and interior was spanking new. EVery 2 rows, there was an LCD monitor on top which displayed a map of china, and where the plane was flying towards. It even showed how fast the plane was going, temperature, and well as how many miles to reaching the destination. The flight to Nanchang was about 1.5 hours long. We arrived at 5.30pm and headed to the hotel in 2 buses. The temperature outside the airport was about 17 Celcius. It was freaking cold for me as i was wearing just a t shirt and a jacket. The sun sets earlier during winter and 6 6pm, its total darkness, like the 8pm in ouR country.

We jammed our way to our hotel. Nanchang city is split into 2 parts by a river. In fact the Jiangxi provice has lots of ultra huge lakes(some the size of a little sea) as it has pretty low flat lands. The riverside was done up nicely, with lots of lights and beautiful walkways. however, we stayed some distance away from the river. In fact, we were horrifed when the tour guide told us that the place we are staying in is 3 star and the 3 star hotels here are of worse quality than malaysia. We thought of the worst.

THen when we stopped at the place wewere staying, I was mortified... The name of the place was called Motel 168. MOTEL?!?!? Outrageous!!! But wait a minute, this motel is 15 storey high... Hmm.. something must give.ANyways, we had dinner at the hotel restaurant. It was 6pm and we were all cold and very hungry. Food served wasnt really tasty but nobody cared. Every1 just stuffed themselves silly. I, myself had 3 bowls of rice. YEs, the cold weather has an effect on people.

I then braced myself when we walked into our rooms for the night. But wait, the key used is a key card. And its a touch card system, something like touchn go. tap the card on the door and it opens... Hmm... very high tech. Turned ont he lights and the rooms were bad at all. Inf act, very much better than our 3 star hotels. It even had rain-style showers!!! Woohoo!! I couldnt wait to hit the showers!!. After our showers, we headed out to town for a walk since it was only 8pm. We only walked the streets nearby our hotel as we weren't very familiar with the place and we were freaking cold. we then discovered we were actually beside a train terminal and the train terminal in Nanchang is like what KL sentral is in malaysia. Its a transit point for most train travellers in the south west of China. There were plenty of cheap hotels or motels or just a place to bunk for the night all over town. there were lots of little food stores selling almnost the same thing; mixed rice. THere were also lots of provision stores around our place. We had supper of Xiu loong pau (soup dumplings) at a nearby restaurant before going back to the hotel. Watched some tv before going to sleep at about 12am. The bed here is damn hard... but who cares? I'm too tired anyways... Zzzz....

1 months layoff

Its been about a month since i last blogged. Sorry to my loyal readers (if there are any left after the previous month). Lots of things happened from that day till today.

there were a few highs and lows (and i mean very low) during that time. In between, as working adults, we have to juggle our hectic schedule as well. I have to say it took a really big toll on me last month.

But I'm gonna focus on the good stuff, and it really does seem that things are starting to look good. Went langkawi over the recent long weekend. Drove more than 1200KM in over 3 days...
Yes, we drove around langkawi like gas was free. GOt some nice pictures during eagle feeding. We really took the Sony @300 for a good test run. Lots of nice pics were taken.

Then yesterday, i hit the driving range with EL, my usual golf kaki at KLGCC. I realised that the credit in my prepaid card was gonna expire by the end of the year and i had like 800+ balls left. So i hit about 200 balls yesterday. And thats when my proudest/happiest moment came. After practicing with several clubs, I went on to my weakest clubs, the 3 wood and the driver. Whacked a few with the driver and it hurts like hell because of its stiff shaft. Then i reluctantly turned to my 3 wood. Trusty old Nike IgniteRegular flex. Took the cover off, did some practice swings. I stepped up to the mat and lined myself up for the drive. Wriggles to loosen my wirsts a little. Swung back, cocked my wrists, and swung. FFffftttttt Tink!!! That sweet sound of the club hitting the ball at its sweetspot. And off the ball soared, as i squinted to see where it has gone. 50m, 100m, 150m, 200m!!! and it landed and roled till the end of the range...

THen I had the "OMFGWTF did i do just that??!?!" moment. Then unsure that the ball was mine, i hit another one just to make sure. the next 180m (and that was my previous all time best. and that was when i was practicing religiously) and it continued to roll to 200m. And i was like hmm... let me do it again. the next went 200m again. And i was dumbfounded. EL was like, did u just hit a 200m drive? and i was like; yeah, it seems like it.

so then i was already happy. it was like there was a halo or a sunray shining down on me. I just continued to whack as much as i possibly could. i'll nvr know if this moment ever comes back again. so yes, i milked it for all its worth. sure there were a few mishits and misdirected shots. but generally most of them reached 200m.

i was ecstatic! nvr been so happy before. It was an ego boost when the guy next to me couldnt even beat my distance with his driver. I was grinning from ear to ear. Unfortunately, it wasnt long before my hands gave way. I was happy, but very tired.

today i felt the effects oh swinging too hard. my whole body ached. my throat was also sore. sighh... but hey,i'm happy for time being.

Unbreak My Heart - Toni Braxton

Well this is a pretty old song. 90's music. I lost this when my harddisk crashed. Glad to have rediscovered this song.

Unbreak my heart by Toni Braxton(I wonder what happened to her now. So quiet already)

Unbreak my heart - Toni Braxton - Toni Braxton

Lyrics:

Don't leave me in all this pain
Don't leave me out in the rain
Come back and bring back my smile
Come and take these tears away
I need your arms to hold me now
The nights are so unkind
Bring back those nights when I held you beside me

(chorus)
Un-break my heart
Say you'll love me again
Un-do this hurt you caused
When you walked out the door
And walked outta my life
Un-cry these tears
I cried so many nights
Un-break my heart, my heart

Take back that sad word good-bye
Bring back the joy to my life
Don't leave me here with these tears
Come and kiss this pain away
I can't forget the day you left
Time is so unkind
And life is so cruel without you here beside me

(Chorus)

Ohh, oh
Don't leave me in all this pain
Don't leave me out in the rain
Bring back the nights when I held you beside me
(rpt Chorus except last line)

Un-break my
Un-break my heart, oh baby
Come back and say you love me
Un-break my heart
Sweet darlin'
Without you I just can't go on
Can't go on

My head is an empty vessel

Yes, and empty vessel because i dont have a topic to blog about...
Yes, people also say that empty vessel makes the most noise. But this empty vessel isn't as noisy as he usually is. So the conclusion is that this vessel hasn't been disturbed or very disturbed.

So what happened? Honestly its been a mixture of not being disturbed and suffering from a mental trauma at the same time. But then again, its the spice of life I guess. The ups and downs of life...

But honestly i dont have anything to share at the moment. I'm brain dead. I can talk about RPK and ANwar at the courts today. But i dont have enough substance to fill this topic up.

Sigh... My mind is just blank.

Populists Economic Policies: Petrol Price

Sometime in the middle of last week, the govt decided to reduce petrol prices by 10 cents, stating that the world oil price has decreased. And since they are using a fixed 30sen subsidy system to detemine fuel prices, the amount the govt subsidises per litre is fixed. But what is not fixed is the total amount that the government must compensate to petrol producers. This is amount is decided by the number of litres of petrol that has been purchased by consumers like us.

Now here is where I'd like to give my 5 cents worth (used to be 2 cents, but due to rising inflation, it has now increased ;-p). And why do I think that my 5 cents is important? Because I majored in Economics, thats why!! Hehehe, well, actually this topic has been bugging me ever since I realised how much the govt spends on petrol susidies in our country.

Majority of the population in Malaysia finds that it is important that our govt not only continues, but to increase its subsisdies so we can enjoy lower prices at the pump.

My suggestion is definitely unpopular: Remove Subsidies totally and let us pay the world petrol price!!!!

Most of you would kill me if I was the Prime Minister but hear me out. Here is my reasoning:

First of all, before I totally reduce subsidies, I will lower import duty and excise duty for all vehicles. In 1 year, I will lower it to only a levy of RM5,000 per vehicle or 5% of the vehicle price (those under 2,000cc), whichever is higher. For cars that use alternative fuels or green vehicles, road tax will be waived for 5 years to encourage use of environmentally friendly vehicles.

And during that time i will slowly increase the price of petrol over 1 or 2 years, giving people time to adjust. The schedule as to how much per increase and when it will increase shall be released to the public to ensure there are no "midnight petrol kiosk madness" all over the country.

And what is my aim of doing that? Lets say the real world petrol price which we will pay in the future is RM 3.50 per litre (assuming it stays fixed for some time), we will pay RM1 per litlre more than we are currently doing. But if Taxes of cars were to be reduced, so for example, a fuel efficient Honda City will now cost RM60,000 to 65,000 including the new tax scale i mentioned. A Honda City now would cost at least RM 85,000.

With the new pricing structure, a person stands to save at least RM20,000 when he buys a new vehicle. That RM20,000 is enough to pay for another 20,000 litres of petrol (based on the extra amount that we will pay if subsidies were to be reduced). SO in this case, we will receive a "subsidy" on our petrol and still have lower car price. Lower car price means shorter car loan tenure or lower interests rates for us. Which will in turn, lead to greater savings.

And even better, lower prices will allow us to switch from gas guzzling cars to more fuel efficient ones, which in turn, will reduce pollution as these vehicles will emit less greenhouse gases.

Oh wait, I have not mentioned that all our tax money will not be spent on subsidising our own petrol. Also, if the subsidies were to increase, people will tend to waste the resource more than they will appreciate it. Ppl will overtravel unnecessarily, which will lead to higher petrol consumption, which will then lead to higher subsidies to be paid by the govt. Government savings from subsidies can then be used to develop and improve the country even further. The economy will defitely be boosted if money is spent on development, not on subsidies. Subsidies does not help the economy expand in anyway.

SO what i'm trying to say is that by making both petrol price and car prices reflect the world prices, the economy and the environment stands to gain. Of course the losers will be people who just bought vehicles or the poorer people. But the poorer people will stand to gain, once our local car manufacturers and low end vehicles are sold at sub-RM20,000 price tag, which I'm sure is possible. Plus a higher petrol price will then send a alarm to those people who cant afford to drive to wake up. Living beyond your means will only get them into trouble, but with a strong wake up call, they may still be able to salvage their finances.

Yes i know the increase in petrol price will lead to a general increase of price everywhere. But even without petrol price increase, the cost of goods will still increase anyway, so why let us live in a bubble-wrapped world. We have to start paying world prices for goods if we are to be globally competitive anyway.

And yes, the money can be used to help to poor Malaysians living below a monthly income of RM2,000 a month in cities and RM1,500 in smaller towns. Public transportation will definitely be improved.

In the end, what i have said is pretty much my opinion on how our economy should work, but then again, i'm entitled to say it and i dont think reducing petrol prices is the way to go. And for our govt and other Opposition memebers who play with the petrol price issue, i urge them to stop it as it is of no benefit to the citizens. Educate them, tell them why being at world price is important. It maybe painful at first, but this is only short term, in the long run, everything will normalize.

Well, anyway, i just want to reduce wastage and save the environment at the same time. And i dont like the way the politicians try to sway the people by playing with petrol price. Its very damaging to the economy...

I wonder if there are any of you that concurs with me?

Wide Angle 37 (spiked): The Malaysian Political Oscars!

WIDE ANGLE – Huzir Sulaiman

The Malaysian Political Oscars!
Our political situation is like something out of a movie – so here are the awards. The envelope, please…

The Wide Angle Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, headquartered for no particular reason in Skudai, presents this year’s Malaysian Political Oscars.

The most widely watched television event in Malaysia, the Political Oscar telecast reaches over 1 billion viewers, some of whom are dead, some of whom are 130 years old, and most of whom are registered at the same address.

How does it work? Members of the academy (all Malaysian taxi drivers who despite being allegedly the worst in the world at driving taxis are remarkably good at political analysis) vote on these awards, and the results are tabulated by the auditors of some large accounting firm who would rather do this sort of thing than real accounting work, which might explain the state of the economy.

Here are the nominees and winners.

Best Supporting Actor
It is a crowded field this year, with many stellar performances from both veterans and newcomers.

The nominees include private investigator P. Balasubramaniam in Missing; Pusrawi’s Dr. Mohd Osman in Rear Window; Zaid Ibrahim in Gone in Sixty Seconds; and Raja Petra Kamaruddin in An Inconvenient Truth.

But the Best Supporting Actor Oscar goes to Penang Umno leader Ahmad Ismail for his controversial performance in Pride and Prejudice.

Despite his recent success, which led to him being cast in Under Siege and Raging Bull, Ahmad has flatly refused roles in the films Anger Management and Atonement.

Best Supporting Actress
For her critically-acclaimed performance in Minority Report, this year’s Best Supporting Actress Oscar goes to Sinchew Daily reporter Tan Hoon Cheng.

Interestingly, immediately after that film completed principal photography, Tan was the unwitting star of Catch and Release, a film that may or may not have been directed by Syed Hamid Albar, depending on which version of the studio press kit you read.

Tan spent just 18 hours on location, before quitting, citing creative differences.

Best Cinematography
For his impactful camera work in the V.K. Lingam vehicle The Conversation, the Oscar for Cinematography goes to Gwo Loh Burne.

(Although The Conversation was shot some time ago, due to his refusal to be credited for many months, Gwo Loh Burne could not be given the award earlier. When he finally came forward, this legal thriller was re-released in some markets as The Burne Identity.)

The Conversation beat out Entrapment, starring Chua Soi Lek, which also features an anonymous cinematographer.

Best Foreign-Language Film
Agricultural Study Tour, a Taiwanese sleeper hit, was shot entirely by coincidence, supposedly with no director and no funding.

Nonetheless, a sequel, Exile on My Taiwanese Farm: Peeling my Taugeh might be filmed next year with some of the original cast.

Best Original Screenplay
Jumper, written by Anwar Ibrahim, wins this year’s award. Although the film suffers from a cast of unknowns, whose number seems to fluctuate from scene to scene (though always at least 31), the script is undeniably original and exciting. It also has the potential for numerous sequels, which will prove profitable for the actors.

Best Adapted Screenplay
Written by a team of in-house screenwriters from the Attorney-General’s Studios, The Accused, starring Anwar Ibrahim, is allegedly adapted from instructions given by political superiors. A remake of the 1998 flop, but with many of the same actors and production team.

Best Actress
Seputeh Member of Parliament Teresa Kok was competing against herself this year with sterling performances in a slew of releases: Election; Woman on Top; Supergirl; and, in cinemas until last Friday, the black comedy Enemy of the State.

She wins the Best Actress Oscar, however, for her most famous role, Miss Congeniality, which has earned her praise from audiences and critics alike.

Best Actor
The big stars of yesteryear dominated the Best Actor category this year.

Nominees include S. Samy Vellu in Gone With The Wind; Dr. Mahathir Mohamed in V for Vendetta; and both Najib Tun Razak and Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in the comedy Trading Places.

The winner, however, of the Malaysian Political Oscar for Best Actor is Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for his flawless, nuanced, masterful performance in Eyes Wide Shut.

Best Picture
The nominees for Best Picture in the Malaysian Political Oscars are all gripping epics.

They include the moving story of the many members of Parti Sosialis Malaysia, The Magnificent Seven; the Khairy Jamaluddin biopic Million Dollar Baby; the Hindraf saga, Out for Justice; and the tale of Gerakan in the Barisan Nasional, The End of the Affair.

The winner for Best Picture, however, is the story of the MCA’s struggle against the Internal Security Act, Look Who’s Talking Now.

Lifetime Achievement Award
For his astonishing film career spanning many decades, and including both commercial hits and small but critically-acclaimed art-house movies, Anwar Ibrahim wins the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Another Honest Politician

Once again, looking at this article, where ex-SAPP deputy said he stopped Badawi from asking the ACA to arrest the SAPP president is shocking.

This Raymond Tan, must be either very honest and smart or terribly stupid and straight. I know that SAPP has pulled out of the National Front coalition (Barisan Nasional in BM), and Raymond has quit because he doesnt agree with their stand.

But then with this shocking revelation, I don't know what he's trying to do. Is he trying to help speed-up our current PM's demise or does he really think he saved Yong Teck Lee's (SAPP President) asss and wants him to be grateful?

Let's look at the implication of Mr. Raymond's statement. He said, he stopped Pak Lah from ordering the ACA to bring in Yong Teck Lee for corruption after he made a statement of no confidence against the PM.

First, it shows that the ACA isn't independent at all. After Yong made that statement, the next day ACA were investigating claims that he was corrupted. Very suspicious to the ppl at that time. Now it has been confirmed to be true lah, ACA only targets selected people.

Secondly, it shows that our PM has misused his powersto orderthe ACA to start investigations.

Third, it shows that with a good relationship, you can get the PM to help do whatever you want.

Look, i dont know if Raymond is really stupid or not. What does he expect Yong to do now? Thnak him in public for influencing the PM? Hey, in fact, that what Yong should do. He shouldhold a press conference to do it. Thank Raymond in public for having the ability to ask the PM to not arrest Yong.

If i were Badawi, i would just send some sniper to shoot this Raymond down lah... Kacau saja. Not helping at all. Or even better, ask an anonymous threat to harm his life and then ask Syed Hamid Albar (the Home minister) to bring him in under the ISA to "protect him" indefinitely.

I don't know what else will be revealed over the following days. SHould be getting very exciting soon.

September 16th, not just another day

One may argue that everyday is not just another day. I truly agree. But which is memorable? Will today be memorable? Well, we have another 6 hours to go. It may or may not happen. I'm not holding my breath. I'm already not expect it to happen anytime soon. All i'm willing to believe is that the day will come. The day the 50 over years of tyranny will end (actually, it may not be 50 plus years, it may be much shorter than that cause the ppl became more tyrannical over the recent decades) .

Yesterday, was an extra special night for the supporters of the "govt-in-waiting" in Kelana Jaya Stadium. It was part Malaysia Day celebration, part declaration for a change. I bet when they sang the "Negaraku" most of the people there never sang it with more passion than they have ever done in their life. And i bet that showed how much they loved their country, despite its ups and downs, mismanagements, and more often, misquotes. Yet, all who converged there yesterday night were there to show that the new generation of people are looking beyond racial lines. Its about time we deleted the Kaum and Agama Column in all sorts of application forms. We are all Malaysians, and that is how we want it to be seen.

Anyways, moving on, I think its going to be an interesting few weeks ahead for all Malaysians. Regardless of whether we are active participants or not, any of the developments will definitely affect us. I'll just wait eagerly in anticipation... (Oh, btw, most news website are almost inaccessible due to high levels of traffic. Looks like there are lots of eager beavers like me ;-)

What comes after the Hungry Ghost Festival?

Come guys and girls, take a guess. What event comes after the Hungry Ghost Festival this year. It may not happen next year or the year after that. It didn't happen the year before and the year before last.

Got you guessing, didn't I? hehehe...

Its definitely not the Mooncake Festival as it happens every year after the Hungry Ghost Festival. Take another guess...

Don't Know?

Give up?

Are you sure you don't want to tembak 1 last time? ;-p

Well, the answer is.....
>
>
>
>
>
>
>
>
The Hungry Police Festival, thats what!!!! Yes this year, this festival happens immediately after the Hungry Ghost Festival. It has occured in different times every year, and once in a very long while, it happens twice a year.

Yes this is the time when there just traffic roadblocks just manned by about 3 policemen only. its rare for there to be like 10 in an operation during this festival, because if the police are hungry they ain't so keen on sharing, especially with so many people...

Suddenly everywhere u go at night (especially highways) will suddenly be in a jam for no reason. The line could be a few kilometres long, and you must be wondering if it could be due to an accident or something. But the fact is that, it is just due to the extra "vigilance" of our traffic policemen during this time of the year.

Look, i'm not generalising all traffic cops to be "hungry" during this time of the year... I mean some are only hungry over this month-long festival, some are hungry all year long (very unfortunate), while i'm sure most of them are not hungry at all.

I think i've mentioned this in my previous posts last year in my multiply page. But then again, we cant stop the festival from happening unless something is done to satisfy their hunger at employer level. The employers know why this is happening and has allowed this to continue happening, and this is why we end up having this festival every year. You can ask any motorist on the road who is stuck in a roadblock at night what they think. They can tell you the same thing, Hungry Police Festival.

Just like the Hungry Ghost Festival, when we see these things happening, we cannot do anything to kacau or raise a protest as we might be "victimised" later. This is especially true among the Chinese as we were thought by our parents to try our best not to notice these activities. And since we've been doing this from you, its not difficult to transfer what we learnt here to the Hungry Police Festival.

Here I am just wondering, if there were any VIPs that were caught in a congestions caused by these roadblocks. And if yes, what did they think was going on? Do they actually think that the police are just being extra hardworking and upholding the traffic laws during this period while they drive past?

Sigh... Just forget about what I said. i guess I'm just annoyed because of the fact that I had passed 4 roadblocks (which caused tremendous jams) at night already... 4 times is about 10 days and on different highways. There are months that go by without even me having to pass a single roadblock on my way back?

Extra vigilance or Hungry Police Festival

You decide...

Why should I apologise?

This is taken from the Star website. Can be seen here also:

Ahmad: Why should I apologise?

By ANDREA FILMER

GEORGE TOWN: Bukit Bendera Umno division chief Datuk Ahmad Ismail has refused to apologise over his racist remark calling the Chinese community “immigrants who do not deserve equal rights”.

“Why should I apologise? I didn’t do anything wrong. Those who do wrong should apologise but I haven’t done anything,” Ahmad said when The Star met him outside his Bayan Baru office yesterday.

He, however, refused to comment on whether the press misquoted him.

Sounding calm and collected on the phone, he said a full statement on what transpired would be released after a Penang Umno liaison meeting tomorrow.

Man in the news: Ahmad gesturing as he replies to a question in Bayan Baru yesterday. He said he had been leading a sepak takraw team to a tournament in Bangkok.

He added that he would not say much at present, but wanted to clear up the issue of reporting to the police.

Police are currently investigating five reports lodged against Ahmad under the Sedition Act 1948 for uttering the remarks at a ceramah on the eve of the Permatang Pauh by-election.

He said there were reports of his going to the Bukit Mertajam police station on Wednesday night (to make a statement).

“I want to make it clear that I never told anyone or informed anyone that I would be there. It was their assumption,” he said.

Ahmad recorded a statement at the police contingent headquarters in Penang Road at about 10pm the same night while pressmen from television, online and print media were waiting for him on the mainland.

Asked where he had been over the last few days, Ahmad confirmed that he had been leading a sepak takraw team to a tournament in Bangkok.

“My phone has been on and off, but a lot of my anak buah (supporters) have been calling me, so maybe that’s why it has been hard to get through,” he said.

On the alleged misappropriation of funds involving now-defunct company Popular Profile Sdn Bhd (PPSB), Ahmad said he had resigned before any action was taken on the company.

“This issue has nothing to do with me. Action is taken on a company, not on a personal capacity. Moreover, I resigned from the company on Sept 1, 1998. What happened after that, I don’t know.

“The Chief Minister (Lim Guan Eng) shouldn’t be using his political muscle and power to attack me,” he said, adding that he would not say more on the land deal until he had checked the details.

Lim had recently attacked Ahmad on a 1997 land deal involving PPSB, in which Ahmad had been a director. Lim alleged that the company had cheated the state of RM500,000 in a deal involving 4.2ha of industrial land in Bukit Minyak.

************************************

Well believe or not, I'm actually with this guy. Why should he apologise? As a person who is speaking the truth, he shouldn't apologise. He's only calling a rose a rose. Nothing more than that. It may be hard on our ears but it is the fact. Trust me, the truth hurts. So why are all the people angry at him when all he said was the truth, no matter how ugly it may sound, but he had the guts to say it. After all, most Chinese in coffeeshops always talk about how they are not given the same rights and etc. lah... So finally we have a UMNO dude who is brave enough to tell the world the truth.

Even the DPM, was there when he made that statement didn't disagree immediately. Which actually meant that he agrees in principle what was said that night. He just didn't have the guts to tell the public thats all. And why did he take so long to apologise? Because ppl were angry. he only sorry because ppl are angry, not because the statement was wrong. (Cue the song by Rihanna, Take A Bow; look at the lyrics here.) Ok lah i quote the a few of the lines from the song here:-

An' don't tell me you're sorry 'cause you're not
Baby when I know you're only sorry you got caught

But you put on quite a show
Really had me going
But now it's time to go
Curtain's finally closing
That was quite a show
Very entertaining
But it's over now (but it's over now)
Go on and take a bow...

Thank goodness we still have people like him, who are dead straight honest, with his no-beating around-the-bush, takes-no-prisoner approach. Its ppl like our other minister and leaders are those who do not tell us the truth, telling us that we are equal. They are the liars!! Screwing us from the front is OK, just dont tell me nice things then stab me in the back lah!

If there was an award for having the guts to be honest award, we should give it to him.

Sigh, but then again, its because of our government's inconsistent use of the law that I'm not as brutally honest as he is out in public. Had i been as honest as he is, I would be in jail eating nasi lemak everyday, and probaly sing negaraku and recite the rukun negara till my voice is coarse...

Hey man,

Thanks for the honesty!! Please do it more often. We don't need anymore hypocrites in Malaysia, we want ppl to tell us the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help us God.

The Gym

The Gym. Its a place i've been missing from for more than half a year now. Obviously chubbier then before (even a lot of my friends have mentioned it), i didnt even have time to go for my regular badminton sessions. So in terms of stamina and fitness, its all gone down the drain. But not for any longer!!

After searching high and low, i have finally found the place which suits my budget. And that place is... Not Fitness First, Not California Fitness, Not mYoga, Not True Fitness, Not Celebrity Fitness, obviously not Gold's Gym (since that was my previous gym). You must be thinking i joined a small gym, but its not. This place has like more than 10 locations in Malaysia and in several countries as well. Give up? Its,

CLARK HATCH! Hehehe... some ppl might say wah... so high class. Wellt hats how they use to brand themselves. And since they dont aggressively promote themselves, a lot of ppl nowadays may not have even heard of them.

So where is the 1 which i'll be going to often? there's actually 1 near my office. its at Hilton PJ. although the biggest factor for me was price (about 20% cheaper), it is also open 24hours a day. And they even give you towels (unlike certain places) and even clothing so you dont even have to bring your workout attire! And the good thing is that there isn;t any contract so you can elave anytime without penalty.

So yes, i can't wait to step back into gym and improve on my fitness levels. Rowing machine, here i come!!!

Jaya One Eateries Review : Sun Wong

Another week, another eatery. This time around, we have decided to try Sun Wong, a Hong Kong style restaurant. What they serve is usually what you see in Kim Gary or Wong Kok.

The restaurant is located atg the back of Jaya One, near the parking entrance facing UTAR. If you are entering from the main road you would miss the restaurant. After passing by the place countless time going to the carpark, we decided to give this place a shot. When we entered the restaurant, there were only like 3 other tables being served. Didn't bode too well...

The staff are friendly and eager to help. The ambience? Typical Hong Kong style eatery lor... Nothing fantastic, and quite simple.

When we looked at the menu, we were surprised at the prices they charged. Its cheaper and Kim Gary, Wong Kok, et al. We ordered the fried rice, honey pork rib rice, thick toast with peanut butter, boxing chicken. For drinks, we ordered, the sea coconut with longan and shaved ice and the iced milk tea.

The food arrived pretty fast (since there weren't many customers anyway). The head waitress/manager was pretty friendly, checking on us to see if the food and service was good.

The food is good. Fried rice is better than a lot of places i've tried (but if you hate mixed vegetables, you should avoid this). The pork rib rice was also nice, not too sweet and the portions just nice. The boxing chicken is good, but not great, missing some seasoning for that extra little flavour or shall i say "kick". The toast was huge, but unfortunately, i ate it a bit too late (stupid me for eating it last), and as such, the taost had already cooled down and it became very stiff and hard to chew. And with the generous amounts of peanut butter, my jaws had to work overtime to chew it.

The tea was "kau" enough for me. as for the seacoconut drink, if you dont like it with lemon, you might not enjoy it as much as some ppl will argue that the lemon will overpower the sea coconut taste in the drink.

Overall, i think this is the place with the best food so far. Shame on the rest for having such nice decor but poor food.

Ambience: 6/10
Taste: 7.5/10
Service 7/ 10.

Better in time- Leona Lewis

Damn nice song... hehehe Enjoy!!!

Better In Time - Leona Lewis

LYRICS:-

It's been the longest winter without you
I didn't know where to turn to
See somehow I can't forget you
After all that we've been through

Going coming thought I heard a knock
Who's there no one
Thinking that I deserve it
Now I realise that I really didn't know
If you didn't notice you mean everything
Quickly I'm learning to love again
All I know is I'ma be ok

[Chorus:]
Thought I couldn't live without you
It's gonna hurt when it heals too
It'll all get better in time
And even though I really love you
I'm gonna smile cause I deserve to
It'll all get better in time

I couldn't turn on the TV
Without something there to remind me
Was it all that easy
To just put aside your feelings

If I'm dreaming don't wanna laugh
Hurt my feelings but that's the path
I believe in
And I know that time will heal it
If you didn't notice boy you meant everything
Quickly I'm learning to love again
All I know is I'ma be ok

[Chorus:]
Thought I couldn't live without you
It's gonna hurt when it heals too
It'll all get better in time
And even though I really love you
I'm gonna smile cause I deserve to
It'll all get better in time

Since there's no more you and me
It's time I let you go
So I can be free
And live my life how it should be
No matter how hard it is I'll be fine without you
Yes I will

[Chorus: x2]
Thought I couldn't live without you
It's gonna hurt when it heals too
It'll all get better in time
And even though I really love you
I'm gonna smile cause I deserve to
It'll all get better in time

Jaya One Eateries Review: Tappers Cafe

I refused to believe that 2 out of 2 bad eateries means that Jaya One is full of bad places to eat. So i was there again yesterday and this time, we tried the place of my choice (the first 2 weren't my choices but i didn't disagree either).

Tappers is situated in between Santinis and Kluang Station Kopitiam (i think its kluang station lah).
Tappers is also modelled after some of those kopitiams like kluang station, Old Town and etc. They serve mainly local dishes and some hainanese fare like the hainanese chicken chop. We ordered the hainanese chicken chop, nasi dagang ayam, french toast with honey, bandung sirap (known as goo lee ping here) and iced "cham" (coffee and tea).

The drinks here are nice and damned kao. but if you dont like drinks that are a tad on the sweet side, then its not recommended. We ordered 2 glasses of bandung sirap, hehehe... The cham was good also.

Now for the food, if you like french toast, i'm sure wou will like the french toast here. It is evenly fried and the colour is perfect. Then when eaten with honey, it tastes so good...(already drooling thinking aout it now...). The hainanese chicken chop was passable, though the batter on the fried chiken not as crispy as i had hoped. The sauce was decent, but different from the ones i've tasted. This one is a bit sweet sourish, liked cooked with tomato sauce. Servings is small for a guy like me who can eat lah... It wont stuff you, and it wont make you hungry either. As for the nasi dagang, the rice was nice, but some pars of it tasted like it wasn't cooked with enough water (could be due to it being the top layer when being scooped from the rice cooker). The chicken was also decent only lah, not good enough for my standards.

However, if we talk about value for money, this is the cheapest meal we had in Jaya One so far... all the above for RM 25 only. Not too expensive. And yes we finally didn't have to go Nando's for a 2nd round of dinner, unlike the previous 2 times...

Ambience: 6/10
Taste: 5.5/10
Service: 6/10

Tiring weekend

Friday night was the 2nd time in a week i visited Deli-cious cafe in Bangsar Village 2. Well all i can say is that i'm guaranteed of a good time everytime i've been there. Friday was no exception.
It was supposed to be celebrating my ex colleagues farewell, but since there weren't many ppl who were free that evening there were only 5 of us. And in the end it turned out that 30 of the ppl there are ex colleagues while only 2 more are still there.

Despite the horrendous jam on Friday, we managed to reach the place at 7.30pm, just on time as i reserved a spot for that time as well. I asked for a corner table at the back end of the restaurant. Its a great spot as it is not as noisy as if u were sitting in the middle of a packed restaurant.

We feasted like pigs that night. Garlic potatoes, brushcetta, caeser's salad, 5 main courses and dessert. We sat chatted and joked about the things that has been happening during recent times. A joke came up:

A reporter decided to write an article about the red indian tribe, so he travelled deep into uncharted territory just to find the tribe. Once he reached there, he started looking for people to interview. There he saw a man wearing a head gear with a feather on top. So he decided to talk to him.

Reporter: Hey there, may i know why you are wearing a headdress with a feather?
Small chief: Me small chief. One feather, fcuk 1 woman.
Reporter: Oh i see....

Moving on, he next saw a person wearing a bigger headgear with more feathers.

Reporter: May i know what is your position in the tribe?
Medium Chief: Me medium chief. Got 10 feathers, fcuk 10 women.
Reporter: Oh ok.... (getting freaked out)

And then finally he saw a man sitting on a chair, with a big @$$ headress with feathers all the way down to the floor. So he decided to walk up to that guy and asked

Reporter: So you have the biggest headdress here, you must be the chief.
Chief: yes, me chief of tribe. A lot of feathers, everything fcuk. Tree fcuk, stone fcuk and etc...
Reporter (shocked): That's hostile!
Chief: yes, horse style, dog style cow style all also i do.
Reporter: Oh, dear...
Chief: Deer? No deer, hole too high, run too fast!

ROTFL LOL OMWTFBBQ!!

Great joke to end the night. we said our goodbye and parted ways, promising to meet up where ever possible.

spent saturday rushing to do my laundry as i had to go visit my grandma in Pahang in the afternoon. it was a tiring 3 hour drive and i was exhausted for the day. Sunday we headed back to kl after breakfast. After we reached home in the afternoon, i immediately headed to KLCC as i met up with my friend there for the PC fair. On sundays, the crowd is the worst as the biggest bargain were held on sundays. After pushing and wading my way around the crowd, i came out with a new wireless router and a 4gb pendrive. 1st weekend of the month and i'm already broke. Sent my friend back to klang before driving back home to yumcha with a friend who said that its been a long time since we went out.

By the time i hit the sack las night, i was deadbeat... i wish it was still friday night....

movie review: The Mummy 3

Caught this movie yesterday with my sister. my sister said she loved that it was funny. I think it really sucked except for the few moments of laughter and madness.

THis is again, like the X-files. the writers are just trying to squeeze as much money from this franchise as possible. The storyline is poor. I mean the previous 2 storylines also weren't that great but at least the adventures and the characters gripped us. This time again, there is just a lame story just to get brendan fraser into mummy hunting action.

Some of the CGI looked a bit fake. Jet Li sucked in this show. How can a man, whom i have grown up watching him kick 20-30 ppl's butt at the same time lose to Brendan Fraser in a straight fight? Thats just ridiculous.

I totally agreed with the review written by the malay mail. Its just not good enough compared to whats been dished out this summer. 2nd worst movie i've seen this year.

Rating: 4/10 (slightly better than X-Files)

Movie review: The X Files: I want to believe

Caught this movie last week. My advice is, worst RM40 i ever spent on a movie (2 premier class tickets mar...) this year. The writers must have lost their plot. Storyline is pretty bad (don't wanna spoil it for those who have not caught it.) But my advice is don't even watch it. You will definitely come out cursing because our expectations of this movie is pretty high. Even for a standalone movie, it sucks big time. Ye si know there are still people whoa re stubborn, they want to see how bad this film is. Be my guest... I think the title is quite suitable for this movie. I (as a fan, really) want to believe (that this movie is great). But it's not. Its like they are trying to squeeze the remaining milk out of this old cash cow.

My rating 2/10.

Jaya One Eateries Review: Kinnaree

Oh, one thing i forgot to mention about Jaya One, the whole place had Wifi!!! cool!!! so rest assured you can eat any outlet and still be connected.

Ok i went to this place called Kinnaree on Tuesday. Kinnaree is a thai restaurant which serves, duh, thai food lah. This is their first branch here in Malaysia. The are actually quite famous in Thailand, so famous that they were in Thailand's "Tatler's Guide to Restaurants in Thailand". Yup, you you are listed in tatler's food guide, then the restaurant has to be high class and of course the taste has to be there as well.

So how does the Malaysian branch fare?

When we walked in the place, the place was well decorated. however, a little gripe here. They used many(when i mean many, i mean a lot) candles in the restaurant, but yet they still turned on all the lights in side the restaurant, which negated the nice soft glows of the candles. I like their lotus leaf motif-ed plate.

We order tomyam of course, and then kangkung belacan, soft-shell crab cooked in spicy balck sauce and green curry chicken. The tom yam, i rate 5/10. Just passable. The 1 person "seafood" tomyam had only 1 prawn, some mushrooms and thats it. Tomyam not really that delicious although got some "kick" lah. I've had better tomyam before, definitely. The softshell crab, i rate about 6/10 cause it was too salty. Kangkung belacan, i rate 5/10 because they really overcooked the kangkung. It was all soft and limp. Plus the taste wasn't that fragrant anyway. The green curry, 4/10. Yes, its bad, so bad, i give it a "fail" since it was not even green in colour. Hahaha... But seriously, the green curry had no kick to it. Generous which the chicken but it didnt save the dish. Was very watery and the gravy not tasty. As for the dessert, we ordered the "Tub Tim krob" which is the red rubies with coconut milk. That wan i also give 5/10 although i'm tempted to fail this dish as well. The only saving grace was that they gave lots of rubies and it was full of chestnut inside rather that flour. Ok the best thing i had there was the lemongrass drink. Serve chilled, it is poured into a wine glass and has the colour of white wine. The lemongrass is not too overpowering and not too sweet either. And its refillable as well.

Service was prompt, efficient and friendly.

OVerall i give it the Death Sentence (DS) again. Looks like it was the interior designer who cooked here as well. If you want a classy high end thai restaurant, go to "To Dine For" in Chulan square instead. Better and abouit same price. This place is definitely not cheap. The total bill came to about RM120.

Ambience: 7/10
Taste: 4/10
Service: 7/10

Jaya One Eateries Review: Brisik

YEs, this is the first installment of my food review. I'll be reviewing a quaint little place called Brisik, which is located at the spanking new Jaya One. For those who don't know where Jaya One is, its located near UTAR PJ in section 13, near the Rothmans roundabout. There are many eateries there and the 1st time i went there, i was spoilt for choice.

So after walking a round a couple of times, we decided to eat at this place called Brisik. Its entrance is at the ground floor but the restaurant space is located upstairs. The place looks really nice and cosy, well decorated.

Food wise, we ordered like 4 dishes and all 4 also turned out not nice. Sorry if i cant remember what the dishes were because ia ctually went there last month. But i ordered whatever that was recommended by the staff there.

The price itself is not expensive for a classy looking spot, but the portions are not big either.

I like the ambience but after trying the food there, i've given it a Death Sentence (DS). What this means is that it is highly unlikely i'll be going back to that place restaurant ever again.

The place looks like it was verhy well designed by the interior desinger, but unfortunately, the food seems to have been cooked by the interior designer.

Ambience: 7/10
Taste: 4/10
Service: 6/10

Boody's Travelogue- Gem Island: A damned good holiday

Hi all dudes and dudettes,

I hope you guys had a great weekend, not bogged down by work and chores. Well, here's the time for me to gloat a little. I had an absolutely fantastically great holiday. One which i've not had for a long time.

Destination: Gem Island (where?!?! just beside Pulau Kapas in Terengganu)

Travel Date: 18/7/08 - 21/7/08 (4 days 3 nights)

On Friday morning, i left for KL sentral early in the morning. Reached sentral at about 7.15am. We wanted to check in our bags thru the KLIA express check in service but we were told we can only check in the luggages 2 hours prior to the flight. Oh well, since we didn't carry many stuff, it was OK to hand carry them. And the good thing was that since the flight we were on is a MAS flight, i checked in from my home before coming to Sentral. I had printed out our boarding pass. So all we had to do at sentral was to buy the KLIA Express tickets and off we went towards KLIA.

The train to KLIA, i have to say, is the best train I've sat in Malaysia. It's a pity that this isn't the case on any other trains that we have in Malaysia. We reached KLIA in 28 minutes flat (yes, i also timed the journey to see if what they boast about is true). We headed to the departure hall and we eagerly awaited for our flight to Kuala Terengganu.

(All the pictures i upload here have not been edited yet). I'll upload the edited ones as soon as i possibly can on my flickr). We would like to thank MAS for also having the free airfares promotion, or else this trip might not have been possible. The flight took about 50 minutes on a Boeing 737-400 plane.

We reached at about 10 in the morning and since our speedboat service was at 3pm, we had some time to kill. So we headed over to Kuala Terengganu (KT) town and went to their Pasar Payang, which is famous for the silk and batik shops as well as the local handicraft stalls. We walked around, careful not to buy too much stuff as we had to carry our bags along. Then we went looking around for a place to have breakfast. Well, i forgot that inTerengganu, their weekends are on Friday and Saturday, so most of the shops were not open. So we had some trouble hunting for a retaurant that was open. After walking for about 15 minutes in the humid weather (with our bags), we finally found a Indian shop that was open. That place sold one of the best roti canais i've ever had in my life!!! so good, i had 3 pieces of "roti" for breakfast. It was really crispy on the outside, so crispy, that when i tried to tear it apart... (damn, its so good, words cant describe it).

After our brunch, we managed to get a cab to send us to Marang jetty, where we waited for our boat service. The boat ride to Gem island is only 10 minutes, however, the sea that day was choppy. So choppy that i could feel the roti canai up my throat at some times. Thank goodness we reached safely, as the ride was like a roller coaster in the sea.

We had our welcome drink and soon we were shown our room. Villa no. 11. All the villas here are named after precious and semi precious stones. our was called Bloodstone. Well anyways, all iw ant to say is the room is nicely decorated. From our balcony we can see fishes swimming below us. Cool!!

We hit the beach as there isn't electricity from 3-5pm daily. The sea here is very clean. No rubbish at all. however, there were broken corals on the beach, unfortunately. The clear blue seas was good therapy for me. We had dinner at 7.30pm. the good thing about this place compared to most East coast island resorts is that the food here isn't served buffet style. Here we get set meals. So there isn't a need to fight for food and we can sit down and have a proper dinner. The food served there was pretty good, just like most of the reviews i've read.

After a nice dinner, we walked out of the restaurant only to be greeted by the nicest night view i have ever seen.

Yeah the picture is very dark (the top part is framed by trees. the background is Kapas Island), but it was the full moon that night. The whole island was illuminated by the moonlight and we can see its reflection off the sea!! Damned beautiful, if i must say... Well, if you all must know, i have timed this retreat as such as to clash with the full moon (with a quick reference to the chinese calendar, of course, hehehe). I had a feeling if i was lucky enough to see the full moon on a clear night, i'd be certain to have a damned good view.

And the next 2 days was spent beingin the sea; snorkelling (attempting to snorkel for me ;-p), kayaking, lounging around and curling up in bed. Oh yeah, ate like a "pandi" (pig in tamil) as well, hehehe... Except for a little incident to my right ring finger (which didnt allow me to enjoy the seawater as much since the incident), the holiday was of pure relaxation for me. Oh did i mention that looking at cute baby turtles swimming is also a good way to release oneself from all concerns of the mind. Seeing them swimming and "flying" thru the water was very peaceful.

On our 4th day, we checked out of the resort very reluctantly. With the amount of fun and relaxation we had here, its not impossible to see why some of the guests here have stayed for 2-3 weeks.

We arrived back at the marang jetty at about 10 am. We stopped at a place to see how batik was made. Quite interesting, but the place was too "touristy" for me. Then we stopped at the Pasar Payang again, to buy some souvenirs. This time all the shops were opened as it's the weekday. We spent about 40 minutes there before heading towards the airport. By the time we reached KL Sentral, it was already 4.30pm. We were tired but we said our goodbyes, with a tinge of sadness that our holiday getaway has officially ended.

Well, this has been another chapter in Boody's travelogue.

Our PM's reply on the Roadblocks and my opinion

This is taken from the Star website and my comments are in red.

Roadblocks needed to keep order, says Pak Lah

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has defended the police for setting up roadblocks around the city in anticipation of a public demonstration, causing massive traffic jams.

The police, meanwhile, said the roadblocks would continue as they have been “successful”.

Look, he didn't even apologise for the inconvenience caused. He's getting so defensive. At least Syed Hamid Alba was apologetic yesterday when he made his speech. Doesn't the PM know we are his bosses? Even if its for your own bosses' good, you would still be expected to apologise and pretend to understand our plight.

The Prime Minister blamed the situation on those who planned to hold demonstrations and said the police were only doing their job of maintaining order and public safety.

I'm sorry?!?! When i was stuck in the jam for 2.5 hours, all i could see was disorder and chaos on the roads. Oh also the disbelief and the grief of all drivers in the jam with me yesterday. In fact, i dont think i would have felt safe yesterday. For all you know some guy who's been under lots of heavy pressure would have just blown and ran amok, destroying people's cars.

“The police are trying to reduce hindrances and traffic jams (that would be caused if the demonstration go on) too,” he said, adding that businesses and shops expected the police to ensure disturbances do not occur.

“But at the same time the demonstrators say police have no business disturbing them. The police have a responsibility in ensuring there is no trouble,” he said.

Well first of all, to reduce traffic jams and hindrances, remove the freaking roadblocks!! That is the key hindrance we faced yesterday. If the demonstration would have gone on, i bet the only placed that would be jammed is the road leading towards the Parliament only, not the whole of Klang Valley, certainly not in Klang, Kepong, Kajang or wherever there is 30km away from the damned Parliament building!!! The only danger to public disorder was from you lah... And since ISA is used against those who cause public disorder, Hmm... muahahah!!! (You better hope i'm not the PM next time)

Abdullah reminded the demonstrators that they could hold their rallies at stadiums where “they can scream at the top of their voice and “not at these places (in the streets) because people have the right to go about their business in peace”.

Dude, i would have been left in peace if you had let the "alleged" gathering take place, cause nowhere else around klang valley or any major highways would have been jammed for that matter.

The rally that was anticipated to take place at Parliament House by Pakatan Rakyat supporters did not materialise yesterday.

Ppl already denied of having planned it. So if the Opposition deny we cannot believe them, but if our DPM or AG deny accusation we can believe them be cause they are more honest than the Opposition?

Police said they would continue to set up roadblocks at several major roads if needed.

“We have no choice as our main concern is to maintain law and order,” said City police chief Datuk Muhammad Sabtu Osman.

Can you show me where was the order in the chaos on the Highways, Mr. Police? And what do you mean no choice? You guys can use your favourite tool, the ISA to throw those guys in jail once you heard of their plan to rally in the Parliament. So now that you've shown that you will not use that draconian law (which only inconvenienced the politicians and their families), you have now decided to inconvenience all of us rakyat, and then blame it on the opposition?

The roadblocks proved to be “successful” although it caused inconvenience to many people, he told a press conference at his office yesterday, adding that 1,600 policemen were deployed for yesterday’s operation.

Thank you very much for the roadblock. i hope you enjoyed implementing it as much as i enjoyed going to work late on Monday morning.

It is learnt that PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin and a few supporters tried to hold a gathering at Central Market at about 1.30pm. They left when asked to do so by police.

You see how co-operative the Opposition guys are? They only "tried" to have a gathering, and they dispersed when you asked them to. So, you could have done the same, wait for the guys to march towards the Parliament, then respectfully ask them to disperse, for which i'm sure they will. No need for the roadblocks, eh?

Like its not enough suffering for us poor citizens lah... Thanks a lot!!!

r0@dblock$!!!!

Okay, here i would like to vent out my frustrations after my 2 and a half hours on the road today. Yes i reached office late. Fre@king Late!!! i reached at about 10.15 am. Do you know how sucky it is to be on the road for such a long time when walking or even crawling seems faster? If i had not used the emergency lanes whenever possible i dont think i would have arrived at this time at all. i would have only arrived in 3 or even 4 hours later!! yes, so what if i broke the law just to get to office as soon as possible? Come arrest me lah!!!

Look, the road blocks have been there all weekend. In all major roads leading into KL. So thanks for ruining the weekend and Monday for the people who drive!!! Can some1 clarify with me the purpose of having such roadblocks being set up in the first place? First of all, the police ain't even doing any "pemeriksaan". They just narrow the road to 1 or 2 lanes then lets you drive off without even once looking into our cars. Look, if you plan to do and "pemeriksaan", at least look into my car lah goddammit!!! I demand to be "periksa-ed"!!! There are some roadblocks without any police there at all, they just place all the skittles to narrow the road. thanks guys.

God, it feels like we're in times of the Emergency (Darurat, for those who studied in Bahasa). Police setting up roadblocks (this time its worse, during those days, they actually checked if ppl were Communists). So yes, you wanna create fear in the minds of our citizens? get them to stay at home during weekends, reduce travelling? You (PM, Police, Home Minister, which ever soh@is that oversees this) might as well implement curfew so that we dont go out anywhere lah!!!

So come on man, give me a good reason for this roadblocks. Is it because u guys are afraid ppl will go and demonstrate in front of the Parliament today, due to the motion of No-confidence? Is it because we have a terrorist in our midts and you would like to capture him (highly unlikely, cause u guys dont even periksa in the 1st place.)?

PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF ALL PEOPLE WHO BRAVED THE JAMS TODAY, WHAT IS THE RESON FOR YOU SETTING UP THE F*CKING ROADBLOCKS?!?!!?!?

The new fad?

Well, last week, there was a diving expo in KL. I guess the market for diving now is getting bigger by the year. So much so that the number of visitors has grown by a huge amount. A lot of people are also beginning to take up diving licences (PADI or others so they can go diving in the open sea.

With a beautiful corals in several islands in Malaysia, there is no doubt why this country is a diving haven.

OK now, here's the subject of this post today. This is of course, entirely my view and opinion. I really wonder and suspect if the vast majority of the people taking up diving now are truly enthusiasts or just doing it because someone else has done it and its like the coolest thing to tell people. I know there are times when people go,"I just got back from my diving trip in X Island and it was great." Then every1 will be like "Whoa... thats so awesome!" shit like that lah. They will then go boast about how they got their licence or try to correct another person who, so happens to have a diving licence as well.

i mean if you are truly passionate about diving then i've got nothing against you. You probably (must) care about marine conservation and stuff like that. But those who just go diving for the sake of showing off will go like, oh yar... i've seen that fish before, in front of me.

Maybe its just me being sour grapes. Maybe its because i take up boring sports like golf, badminton and football, which every1 else does (well not golf). Can you imagine when i tell people i made par on the golf course, and people will be like what? Look i dont care about a boring game like golf. But when it comes to diving, people are like, whoa, its like watching Animal Planet in real life.

Of course i know its always better to see things in real life than on tv lah... but don't go get the damn licence just to show off. If u like to dive then you can dive without the licence also can, why do you need the licence. most of the places you go will also have a dive master to help you anyway (I'm probably being very ignorant now). Oh well, my point is that, don't go and blow that few thousand bucks just to get the licence to show off lah.

Damn, i feel grouchy this morning. Must be because of this damn flu which i had just caught yesterday. Now my nose is leaking like a faucet. Dammit! anyways, i think thats my rant for today. enjoy the weekend

Boody's Personal Financial Fitness Program (P.F.F.P)

Finances finances… With the price of everything going up, it’s hard for the lower class to survive and the middle class to stay afloat. Life is sucking for people that are employers as well as employees. Economic conditions aren’t getting any better, and so is the political atmosphere. I’ll try to steer clear of any political news in this post today. I’ll be focusing more on personal finance, a favourite subject of mine (after all, I am a Certified Financial Planner ;-p).

Well, for a financial planner, it sucks to say I don’t make enough money to support myself (but then again, even millionaires complain they don’t have enough money). Nobody will ever be satisfied with what they have. Most of the time, we always want more. So in this case its not about how much we earn, its how we use what we have (this of course is true if u make more than RM1,500 a month). If you earn less than that working full time, then I strongly believe you are below my poverty line.

The first thing I would always ask people is how many bank accounts does a person have? Most people have 1, at most 2. 2 is fine, but in my opinion, that is the minimum. I believe we should have 3 but if you can’t keep track of it then 2 is good enough. Why isn’t 1 account enough? Well, first of all this is probably the account which your employers will deposit your salary in. SO at the end of the month you will go to this bank account to withdraw and spend your money. And every time you don’t have enough money, you will go and withdraw till there’s no more. So what happens at the end of the month? You get the same syndrome as every1, which is “I’m broke by mid/end of the month” syndrome. And by broke I mean you really have no cash or other places where you stash your own cash. And there are thousands of people who live like this everyday for many years. Then one fine day, it hits them, WHAM!!! I don’t have savings in case of emergencies. Very uncool.

My first suggestion is to at least open 2 bank accounts. Now what do you do with that other account since you always complain got no money by mid or end month anyways. Well, ask yourself this,”How much am I wiling to save at the beginning when my salary is out?” Maybe for starters try RM100 or 200. If you save 200 a month and put it into that reserve bank account, you will have 2,400 bucks at the end of the year. And that is like 1 month’s salary for most young people. Once you have transferred that 200 into the other bank account, feel free to spend all the money in Account 1 as you have already saved first. At the end of the month, Account 1 maybe empty, but you can take heart that you still have some savings for a rainy day. Also, bear in mind you do not touch this sum of money unless you really need to. It is of no point if you continue to dip into this account cause you will then be no better off in the first place.

My 2nd advice is to track your expenditure daily if not every few days. Write is down on a 555 booklet or in your PC. I have mine in excel format, cause its easier for me to auto sum it and do various calculations with it when I do my review. This takes a lot of discipline, which I have to admit, I still lack. And what’s the point of doing this? Well the point is that we need to know where our money goes. I’m sure all of us have at least once wondered, hmm… I had 200 in my wallet/purse yesterday. I wonder how come its only 20 now? So that makes us wonder where did we spend our money on? If you continue to track your daily expenses, then you will be able to review it at the end of the month and see the things that we overspend on. Could be shopping, buying too much snacks and et cetera.

Once you have reviewed it, see how much you can reduce your expenses. Maybe start by reducing it by RM 50 a month or a week. If you save RM50 a month, then you would have the RM200 a month in the other bank account already. Or if u already have that RM200 aside, then save this other 200 again. Then you will have a savings of RM400 a month or 4800 yearly. Now, isn’t that a huge amount? In 4 or 5 years you have enough money for a down payment of a house or car or even both.

So if you follow my advice, you are already on your way to financial freedom (albeit a small step). It may not be much, but if you don’t start the engine, you are never gonna move. You will already solve the problem of “I don’t have enough money to spend, how to save?”. Get started as soon as possible!!!

Part 2 of Boody’s Personal Financial Fitness Program (P.F.F.P) will be out soon.
