Under Pressure

Insanity laughs under pressure we're
cracking
Can't
we give
ourselves one more chance
Why can't we give love that one more
chance
Why can't we give love
Give love give love give love give
love
Give
love give love give love
Love's such an old fashioned word
And love
dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the night
And love dares
you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves

This is our last
dance
This is our last dance
This is
ourselves
Under pressure
Under pressure
Pressure

*Excerpts from Queen's song, Under Pressure*

Now this is a very funny scene if you can imagine it.

Last night i was driving my mum and my sister out to the nearby Jaya Jusco for dinner and some shopping when suddenly, out of the blue, my mum asked: So which girl are you going after now?

I just kept quiet and smiled, thinking "Oh Shit! Why she suddenly asked"
I just changed the subject, talking about work and the career opportunities that are available today.

Case Closed. Or so I thought

Later over dinner, my sister wanted to become the Batu Api, so she asked me in front of my mum: Eh, just now Mum asked you a question why you never answer her?

Then she looked at me and flashed me a million dollar smile. And I was like, "Dammit, why she wanna kacau lah..." Again I tried beating around the bush. Told her I still don't have enough cash for myself, let alone enough for another person in my life, financial commitments like insurance and investments etc...

Case Reopened and Closed. Or so I thought, again

After buying our groceries and I was driving back,

Mum: Why you trying to avoid my question ar? Ask u so many times still dont wanna answer. So is there girl you wanna go after lah??

BB (Boodyboy): Er.... (Just smiling while I'm going thru the database of all my females friends in my head)

Mum: You know or not, this is the best time for you to go after girls. You are young and you have plenty of time in your hands. Faster find one and you need some time to settle down wan lah!

Sis (sedang mencelah): Yalar... Faster lah! Don't always be home and bug me. Go and get a life!

Mum: You know, I married when i was 28 and you were born the following year. You see now, I still not too old, not yet retire and you are already working. If you marry and have kids late you will have trouble planning for your children education when you are retired leh...

BB: Yes lar... I know financial planning wan (Family planning not so good, understanding women: Fail)

Mum: SO whichever girl you are going after better try harder lah. Dont waste time liao. You know last time when we got married, we only rented a room and our combined salary was less than RM2k?

BB: Yeah, but those were the days lah. Which girl will actually want a guy who dont make much and wants to live in a rented place with you nowadays? Girls today are more realistic and so am I. Drinking water full (translate to Cantonese) is not good enough lah.

Mum: Haiyar... you don't try you never know. Some women nowadays like to stick thru thick and thin wan ma...

Sis: Yalar... Sometimes drink water full also not bad wan ma... You know, nowdayas i dont feel hungry as often liao (ROTFLOL!!!)

BB: Okay lah... Let me get my priorities straight first okay? If I got, you will be the 1st to know lah.

See lah, sudah under pressure tu!

This has been rare of late

Me ranting about the state of affairs in our country. Used to do it all the time.

MCA.

I was wondering if it even deserves a rant from me. First of all, I already think this is a very irrelevant party, hence I couldn't be bothered about the elections that went on last night.

But seeing how it still manages to generate so much interest around the ppl i know, it is very hard to ignore.

Of course the local media and newspapers will play it up, trying to put up a show, like as if MCA is still very very relevant in today's society. But honestly, Other than TAR College and UTAR, this political party has not done much for the people they claim to represent. For over 50 years, they have their chance to make the Chinese have a say, but due to the fact that they do not have the courage to go against the bigger party, UMNO; MCA have become a sideshow.

Honestly, MCA allows the Chinese to be continuously margined by unfair guidelines by the ruling government. All they do is they will make their concerns known at the BN meeting, but then nothing ever comes out of it.

Hey I may sound racist here, but isn't that what MCA is? Its a racist party, and as such, I shall judge it by its racists achievements. So what if we CHinese are the biggest income tax contributor or that we own most of the businesses in Malaysia. Did MCA play a part for that? I'm sorry but the answer is no.

Even when given their chance to show they can do something great, they screw it up. Just look at the Port Klang Free Zone fiasco and you know that these CHinese people at MCA are as good at wasting the country's money as the UMNO people.

Sigh, maybe being in politics too long has made them think, its finally my chance to get some of the taxpayer's money. FInally a project has been given to the MCA, and as such, we shall get as much money out of it as possible. Let just take a cue from our fellow political parties.

That being said, I really dont care who won yesterday night. According to my friends it's a porn star and a back-stabbing opportunist that won. No matter what they said yesterday, they will not have the power nor guts to tell their big brother in UMNO that we wants our equal rights as well. All they can say is that they are running for a position to re-unite the party. What? Did i hear that correctly?

How can you win and unite the party when you look at the results? Its obviously that the party is far from being united. It was a super close race, wich means there are lots of super loyal supporters of the losers, just slightly less than the winner. How to unite? Susah lah...

I dont really fancy this party who can do nothing for the people they claim to champion, nor do I fancy a racist party.

Malaysians are malaysians, and I'm proud to tell people I'm malaysian. But i do have a gripe> I hate to buy a property knwoing i have to pay 8% more because some people have special privileges. These ppl, may they be richer or poorer gets 8% discount! What type of policy is that? The discounts should be given to the poor only, not to a certain race right?

Oh well, I guess when I'm Malaysian, i have to accept that the country has its good points and bad points. I just hope the bad points can be eliminated :-)

Fuel for Life

Sitting on my ass is difficult. In fact its numbing when you sit on it too long.

And thats how I feel. Numb.

After being in the work force for 3 years (I know its not very long), I do feel like I'm on a plateau.

When I met with a friend for dinner a few days back, she said,"I think I feel dumber already working here."

Well, I may not agree that we became dumber, but we stopped learning new things, only because (sometimes or most of the time) our work is repetitive. So when this happens especially for a prolonged period, our body learns to process these things automatically.

So yes, I feel like I am lacking some form of challenge; be it intellectual or physical.

And I do feel that it could spur me to becoming more gung-ho again when it comes to going through the daily grind.

When I started my first job, my first challenge was to be able to climb up Mount Kinabalu.

I trained at the gym for about 2 hours, 3 times a week and had badminton trainings on weekends.

The hardwork paid off, I've never felt fitter in my life and I managed to climb to the peak with less difficulty (It still was very challenging for me) than I expected. (View my KK trip album here)

Later that same year, I took the final paper for my Certified Financial Planner certification.

It was difficult to study and work at the same time (most of my friends would agree with me on this) and I did not have the luxury of study leave or even exam leave. The weekend classes were a killer as well.

But in the end, I managed to get it thru and I felt some sense of achievement. And eventhough it did not come from work directly, I woke up every morning wanting to go to work, because I have so many things to achieve.

So sitting on my ass for a couple of days have made me realise, I could do with another challenge.

I'm still young (relatively, although I've always considered myself as an old soul ;-p) and my mind should still be able to absorb new stuff.

This is what I'm thinking of taking up.

Certified Financial Analyst (CFA). A lot of people have told me its very difficult and has a low passing rate. Now that sounds like a good challenge right? I did think about doing it a couple of eyars back, but I passed it over as I preferred CFP better. But now as it seems, the job market seems to favour those with CFA qualification. I maybe jumping onto the bandwagon too late as i know of many people who are already taking this.

Decisions, decisions....

Earth Hour 2010 : 27th March 2010. 8.30pm - 9.30pm

This is a community service announcement.

Read the poster below and please do participate (the poster is from year 2008 though, but i chose it because it has a short commentary which i find useful)

According to its official website, Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change. Only a year later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating. Global landmarks such as the, Sydney Harbour Bridge, The CN Tower in Toronto, The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome’s Colosseum, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.

In March 2009, hundreds of millions of people took part in the third Earth Hour. Over 4000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour 2009 the world’s largest global climate change initiative.

Earth Hour 2010 takes place on Saturday 27 March at 8.30pm (local time) and is a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community throughout the world. It is a call to stand up, to take responsibility, to get involved and lead the way towards a sustainable future. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Europe to Asia to the Americas will stand in darkness. People across the world from all walks of life will turn off their lights and join together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet

*************************

This Saturday I'll be going back to my paternal grandparent's home back in Pahang.

And what will I be doing at 8.30pm?

Check out below:

Yes, I'll be out on the rooftop star gazing once again. And maybe make a wish upon a star, or a few hundred stars ;-p

Let all turn off our lights for one hour and just star gaze!

My money, your money, our money

Zee Avi: Live in Malaysia

So yes, I was one of the 2000 plus fans who turned up to watch Zee Avi's showcase in KL Live @ Life Centre.

I was informed that the event was a sold out and they had actually released more tickets for the event and that, was eventually sold out as well.

I bought the upper deck tickets which cost me RM80 each. Me and my sister arrived outside Life Centre at about 7.30pm and there was already a long queue. Luckily for us and everyone else, the line moved fairly quickly and we got in at about 8pm.

The unfortunate thing was that the event company stopped us from taking pictures inside the venue, and as such, I couldnt show the pictures.

That that being said, the crowd for the showcase was a mixed bunch of old and young, which was great. And being on the upper deck, we had less young crazed fans ;-p

We even got seats upstair while those who bought the lower deck had to stand the whole night. We parked ourselves at the front row and got a pretty good view that night. The show started at about 8.45 or 9pm.

When she walked in, she got a great reception from the crowd. It was sort of a homecoming for her, I guess. And she must feel mighty proud that she has a huge fan base back home.

It was a small intimate setting with her on the guitar, a drummer and a double bassist on stage.
Songs she played that night were : Poppy, Slow Hands (an Interpol cover), the Traveller, Honey Bee, Bitter Heart, Just you and me, Kantoi, First of the Gang, and the encore, Monte.

My personal favourites were Poppy, First of the Gang and Is This The End. Didnt get to hear her play the last one, but it fine with me ;-p

The obvious crowd favourite was Kantoi and Bitter Heart. That being said, she is much better live than on the CD. It kinda reminds me of the last time I watched Colbie Caillat about 2 years back at The Curve. Great live singers make me happy :-D

Well anyways, I hope she does well and come up with an even better album in the future. Will look forward to listening to them!

Love has Languages?

Was surfing around online without much in mind when i stumbled upon this website. The research sounded quite reasonable, hence i took the test (well i've also taken my fair share of unreasonable tests just for the heck of it). Below are my results:

The Five Love Languages

My primary love language is probably
Quality Time
with a secondary love language being
Physical Touch.

I agree with the 1st result but I think there is not much to choose between the 2nd and 3rd result. I like spending quality time with my loved ones, friends included. My good friends can tell you that I enjoy nothing but to sit down for a couple of hours at the coffeeshop doing nothing but catching up (or as the guys say; talking c*ck).

I appreciate a good old fashioned hug as much as having a friend do me a favour of show a gesture of appreciation. I myself like to go out of the way to help out a friend if i feel the person is a good person, or in my good books. Who wouldn't anyway?

Complete set of results

Quality Time: 11
Physical Touch: 8
Acts of Service: 6
Words of Affirmation: 3
Receiving Gifts: 2

Information

Unhappiness in relationships, according to Dr. Gary Chapman, is often due to the fact that we speak different love languages. Sometimes we don't understand our partner's requirements, or even our own. We all have a "love tank" that needs to be filled in order for us to express love to others, but there are different means by which our tank can be filled, and there are different ways that we can express love to others.

The week that was - Week 3, March 2010

Last week was an interesting week. With nothing much to look forward to, I was only left with entertaining myself with my own hopes and dreams.

Then out of the blue, I received an email from Mix.fm informing me that I am one of the winners for their Comedy Club giveaway. My prize? A pair of tickets to catch the season finale of Comedy Club on Thursday night.

I was excited to win as I've never watched stand up comedy live before. The closest I've ever got to was watching them over Youtube ;-p

I invited SM, my ex-skoolmate cum newfound friend to catch the show with me.

Dinner was at Full House cafe, located in Yap Kwan Seng. Prices are very reasonable and the taste is alright. Liked the place because it felt very laidback especially since it was located smack in the middle of the city.

Some ppl might be wondering how stand up comedy in KL is gonna fare. All I can say is LOL!
Yeah, the show was pretty good. 4 comedians, and 3 hours of good laughs. I found Andrew Netto, the local stand up pretty good, and that is partly because he infuses a lot of our local scenes into his jokes, and hence is very relatable to us. Esp specially when he made fun of the people of Punjabi Chinese descent.

The other 3 acts were also good, and without knowing, 3 hours just flew by. It never felt too long, not at all.

A night of great company and great laughs!

Earlier in the day, I headed out to Putrajaya with my sis and her friend to catch the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta. Since it was a Thursday, there weren't many people.
The bad thing was, when we arrived most of the balloons were already up in the air (It also reminded me of my fave movie last year, UP). However, we were in time for the tethered hot air balloon rides as the line just opened when we arrived.
The ride, was a bit disappointing as we expected to get higher off the ground, but i think we were only about rose to about 3-4 storeys high. Oh well, it still a once in a lifetime experience for me.

Later, since we had plenty of time to kill, we decided to have a photoshoot around Precinct 2. My sister and her friend Zorb-ed, and came back with injuries ;-p
And the above picutre, is one of my favourite of the lot! We took many more pictures, and they are tagged to my FB page. do take if look if you are interested.
Well, I hope this week will become another good and memorable week for me and for you too!

JZ8

Here is a little promotion for the jazz duo that is about to have their album out in stores.
I've listened to them and I can imagine myself looping to this CD on a lazy weekend or when I'm out driving into the countryside :-)

JZ8 is a duo comprising of vocalist Lydia Chew and well known local jazz pianist, Tay Cher Siang.

Together, they titillate your aural senses with refreshing interpretations of contemporary Chinese pop songs with a pop/jazz/swing flavor like you have never heard before. I seldom see such a tight and matching combination of vocals and piano.

Their album will be out Mid April and retails at RM49.90.

Take a listen to the sample of their songs, and I think it is well worth the RM50 note which your are investing into this music.

You can't always get what you want

Thats the title for one of Rolling Stone's greatest hit.

And yes, that is true in real life. Too often, we want instant gratification. Unless you lead a blessed life, most of the time, it doesn't happen. Things do not fall into place with the snap of a finger. If it did, we wouldn't need to work a day in our life.

When we want something, we always want it now. Any later, even if we do get it, we become unhappy. We ask," Why didn't I get it earlier?" The answer = It comes with hard work.

Yes, hard work. If you don't work at it, no chance in hell will it come your way.
A lot of times, when you put in a lot of effort, especially for a prolonged time, you begin to wonder why there still isn't any result. You might be tempted to give up. But always remember, the person who gives up, no matter how close they are to their finish line, they didnt finish the race.

Keep working at it. Keep the faith. Believe in yourself and abilities, even if the people around you doubt you. Most of the people who ask you to give up, will never give you a pat on your back when you give up. So why listen to them?

I, myself am guilty of this. I am impatient. And I am a fool. I have not put in enough effort and I'm wondering why I haven't got what I wanted. I may have gotten lucky the last time, but I guess I thought it would be the same every other time. Guess I was wrong. I am guilty of even thinking of giving up so early.

Time to correct my ways. I will not give up so easily!

Talk on your handphone for free! All the time!

Let me just say this. This is not an advertorial.

This is just too good for me not to share with the world. I know some people know of this already. But most of them do not.

I was actually complaining about this to my mother and sister a few months back and now the solution has been found.

Yes, you can call your friends for free now. All the time, for lifetime. On your handphone

Now there must be a catch right? Yes there is.

If you are familiar with making calls online, you must have used Skype before.
So now the catch is that, if you have a smartphone, you can actually install Skype for mobile phones. And once you have done that, you can literally call all your friends on Skype with your mobile. THis will work if you already have data plan with your service provider (e.g. Maxis, Celcom or DiGi). Or if your phone has WiFi and you are connected to the network.

SO now, all you need to do is ensure all your friends jump on Skype. Installing it on their PCs, Laptops, or even mobile phones. This works even better than Blackberry Messenger or MSN or any of those programs simply because You can make voice calls on your phone for free.

I've installed it myself and tried it yesterday, and I'm happy to say it actually works!

I called my cousin in Australia and he was on Skype at home. So now, if only more people insall Skype, hehehe. I dont have many contacts on Skype, but if you have an account do add me.

You can download Skype here

Oh at the moment, skype is available for Blackberry, phones that run on Android as well as Symbian (Most Nokia users, all using Nokia N series) and iPhone.

Happy making free calls!!

Terry-ble, Cole-d Days in the Woods for Neo

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, or what the title of this post means, maybe you can read up on the following articles before proceeding.

*Jack Neo's pic*

I'm sure even looking at the headlines you can get where this post of mine is going. Infidelity.

And who are these people? These guys are all in my opinion, public figures, which the public actually look up to for inspiration.

Ashley Cole and John Terry are very famous English footballers (who co-incidentally play for the same club; birds of a feather f*ck together??).

Tiger Woods is the history-in-the-making golfer who is, the greatest golfer of his generation and maybe of all time.

Jack Neo, if you are Malaysian or Singaporean, there isn't any reason not to know him unless you dont own a tv or dont read newspapers lah. He is the director of many movies that strike close to our hearts, and usually has a moral in all of the movies.

*********************************

Now I have a bone to pick with these guys. Not that I'm a saint myself, but I believe that every1 has a right to criticise their behaviour.

These guys really give the rest of us from the same sex a bad name. Seriously... You know feminists will take this and bash us guys even further. Majortiy of younger single women will think that all these bad press actually mirrors men in general.

These people deserve all the bad press they get. They deserve to get boo-ed or jeered or cursed at. I'm not gonna defend these people. But I just wish that the press will leave their families alone. They don't deserve all these negative spotlight. That is the last thing a family needs.

I'm seriously disappointed with the 4 guys mentioned earlier. Millions of people look up to them for inspiration. Parents tell their children to use them as role models. True they may say it happens to most men, so they shoudln't be bashed so much, but I of course, beg to differ. They deserve all the bashing they get in public. After all, they do make mega bucks from the public, the people who support them. And you cannot just shy away when something bad happens.

Gosh, just because they've become powerful, or are in a position of great influence, they behave like this. I honestly believe that if these guys weren't so successful, half of them wouldn't be doing it, to say the least. The other half would still do it, but that is because its in their genes ;-p

Maybe I guess, having a lot of power isn't too good after. Maybe they dont watch enough Spiderman (with great powers, comes great responsibility). or maybe, they think they are greater than Spiderman. I honestly don't care.

What I do belive is that these guys must make up for the wrong they have done. The damage is already irreversible. Taking responsibility and owning up to your own mistake is 1 thing. Making up for it is totally another thing altogether. I've never believed in making an ultra dramatic huge apology. I'd rather believe in the process of making things right. Now that will really show people that you are making an effort to change. Saying sorry is easy. Making amends is not.

But i do really hope they get their lives back on track and go on to become the people that the public portray them to be. ANd I hope their families get their lives back together and I wish them all the best.

Need you now

Been listening to bit and pieces of this song when I'm driving. Finally heard the full song and man, I really like this song by Lady Antabellum. Its a country song with a very contemporary feel ;-)

The lyrics are also very meaningful!

Enjoy!

Songwriters: Haywood, Dave; Kear, Josh; Kelley, Charles; Scott, Hillary;

Picture perfect memories, scattered all around the floor
Reaching for the phone 'cause I can't fight it anymore
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind
For me it happens all the time

It's a quarter after one, I'm all alone and I need you now
Said I wouldn't call but I've lost all control and I need you now
And I don't know how I can do without
I just need you now

Another shot of whiskey, can't stop looking at the door
Wishing you'd come sweeping in the way you did before
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind
For me it happens all the time

It's a quarter after one, I'm a little drunk and I need you now
Said I wouldn't call but I've lost all control and I need you now
And I don't know how I can do without
I just need you now

Woah, woah
Guess I'd rather hurt than feel nothing at all

It's a quarter after one, I'm all alone and I need you now
And I said I wouldn't call but I'm a little drunk and I need you now
And I don't know how I can do without
I just need you now, I just need you now

Oh baby, I need you now

You got me

This song has been on Mix.fm's airwaves for sometime. I think its really catchy and radio friendly. Good song, but don't think it will win any awards ;-p

But hey, I still love it anyway.

Ahh.... Colbie, you bring back the memories

You Got Me – Colbie Caillat

You're stuck on me and my laughing eyes
I can't pretend though I try to hide - I like you
I like you.

I think I felt my heart skip a beat
I'm standing here and I can hardly breathe - you got me
You got me.

The way you take my hand is just so sweet
And that crooked smile of yours it knocks me off my feet

Oh, I just can't get enough
I'm a stoup I need to fill me up.
It feels so good it must be love
It's everything that I've been dreaming of.
I give up. I give in. I let go. Lets begin.
Cuz no matter what I do,
Oh (oh) my heart is filled with you.

I can't imagine what it'd be like
Livin everyday in this life - without you.
Without you.
One look from you I know you understand
This mess we're in you know is just so out of hand.

Oh, I just can't get enough
I'm a stoup I need to fill me up.
It feels so good it must be love
It's everything that I've been dreaming of.
I give up. I give in. I let go. Lets begin.
Cuz no matter what I do,

Oh, I just can't get enough
I'm a stoup I need to fill me up.
It feels so good it must be love
It's everything that I've been dreaming of.
I give up. I give in. I let go. Lets begin.
Cuz no matter what I do,
Oh (oh) my heart is filled with you.

Oh (oh)
You got me. You got me.
Oh (oh)
You got me. You got me.

Angel - Atilia

Caught Talentime earlier today on DVD (Yes, I bought the original DVD).
I found the soundtrack much better than the movie. I was lost half an hour into the movie ;-p

My fave song from the movie so far has got to be Angel, sung by my fave local jazz artiste, Atilia!

Enjoy!!

Angel
I have a dream of you I can't define
You've been on my mind
Don't go
I feel lost without you by my side
Lost and on my own
Yeah I'm falling for an angel

Angel
Your brightest star is shining next to mine
Every night and day
You know
Stars exploded then they fade away
Then they fade away
Yeah I'm falling for an angel
Yeah I'm falling for an angel

Would you please be my babe
Come by and I lay you down
I'm loving when you say I love you too

Won't you please be my honey
I'm sorry that I let you down
Your eyes are breaking my heart in two
Break my heart in two

Angel
May the one above us keep you safe
Every night and day
If he knows
How I love the smile all on your face
When you are here to stay

Yeah I'm falling for an angel
Yeah I'm falling for an angel

Defragment. Reformat. Mylifeneedssortingout.com.my

This is it.

I don't which is scarier. The fact that I think I made a mistake. Or the fact that the way for me to resolve this mistake leaves me with an uncertain future.

I really don't know. I just realised I cannot continue to do things which are against my key personality traits. In fact, the longer I stay in this situation, the more uncomfortable I am.

I am sure the step that I have chosen to take to rectify my situation will receive lots of criticism. All I wish is that something good will come out of this sooner rather than later.

As it is, I'm already feeling uncomfortable from day to day. Yet now I am scared of the consequences to my decision to leave this uncomfortable situation.

Brickbats? Support? Criticism?

People will say,"This young man has some serious issues. Does he even know what he wants in life?"

Oh well...

Football is Art!

That is why it is called the beautiful game. Unless you watch the Malaysian Super League or German Bundesliga or Italian Serie A, that is. Or if you watched Arsenal's game over the weekend, the injury to Ramsey was definitely not a pretty sight. (Hope he recovers soon)

A lot of people may beg to differ but I do think that some footballers (some of the best in the world) are like artists, and the football field is their canvas. And some, of course play the least pretty football. Gattuso, Roy Keane, Vieira all come to mind.

But one has to remember, football is a team game, and for the team to win a game, all players must play in tune with each other. Just like an orchestra. Every person has a different role in the game.
And watching a good team play is like watching a very good symphony in action ;-p

Below are just a few examples of great footballers and their teams. Enjoy!
